BBC journalist Olly Foster says Rich Dawson (Flintoffs opponent) has had 3 pro fights stopping 2 opponents. According to boxrec he has had 2 and stopped 1 winning the other on points. Has the NBC got the wrong Rich Dawson or have boxrec got it wrong?

It's an odd one this fight as the bookies seem to have both guys priced up at around the even money mark. If Dawson is any good surely he'll beat Freddie.

It isn't the same bloke the Dawson who Kimbo fought was white, Flintoff is fighting a black guy with the same name.

Two broadsheets at the weekend gave Flintoff a full page spread yet one of them only gave the Hatton fight 3 paragraphs. Criminal.

Dawson pulled out of the fight against Kimbo and was replaced last minute by a bloke called Jesse Porter...

I'll go on the record now and say, if this is the BoxRec guy, I have absolutely no idea why they would choose him as an opponent. None at all. Complete no win scenario.

You fancy the Yank to win? Do you think he can fight a bit?

The odds on offer for Dawson KO1 are really good I think. (6/1 or so). Bearing in mind he is in against someone who has never stepped into a ring before and really has no idea what it feels like to be punched full force by a heavyweight, that's part of my treble bet. Obviously noone knows about Dawson but just by being in the ring twice (and winning), and going four rounds in one of them, he knows so much more than Freddie.

Does anyone know who Flintoff has been sparring for this one?

Yeah I mean he has beaten these guys, but one was a debutant and the next one was a guy with a 0-4 record who in his previous fights combined had only won 2 rounds or so. Against Dawson he lost by a point so I don't think Dawson is quite the wrecking ball that the BBC are making out.

As mentioned tho they definately could have brought in a guy with a worse record for a debut.

Should it really be a 'stroll' for a 35 year old who has never been in the ring in their life, against someone who is 2-0 with possibly some amateur experience too (can anyone clarify)?

I'm sure I could get myself in good shape and dwarf Ivan Calderon in a press conference, doesn't mean I would beat him.

The thing that keeps occurring to me before this fight is Zelenoff/Hartley. Zelenoff selected a really poor fighter who had the worst record going for his debut. Hartley had a record similar to Eric Crumble, and yet he came into the ring and waxed the floor with Zelenoff, looking like a killer in comparison. Doesn't seem to be much to rule out this being the same scenario. As poor as Dawson might be, he sounds like he has had a tough life and this might mean everything to him, whereas Flintoff has been earning good money playing cricket all his life...relatively comfortable in comparison.

I read somewhere that he had one amateur fight, but I imagine our white collar fights are twice as testing as Oklohoma pro fights.
I expect Flintoff to be terrible but I guess they have worked real hard to find a tomato can for him.
Looking at his physique he does not look to have any ambition.

He had 1 amateur fight.

Is this a 4 rounder? Not a fight I'll be betting on as there are too many variables. Flintoff is much bigger and in much better shape but he has no experience at all as an amateur or as a pro so who knows how he'll react if he gets caught. The other guy looks like he hasn't trained properly, is inexperienced himself and is giving away big physical advantages. This seems a toss up.

You never, ever know how a rank novice will perform on début. I have seen all sorts from frozen and hopeless to staggeringly good. For the betters out there, if the odds of a first round Dawson win are 4/1 or longer it's worth a pitch purely because of what I wrote in my first and second sentence.
