Going off the coverage from the Skelton this fight is on in February in the USA.

Glad Price is out quick again as I expected him to make quick work of Skelton tonight. Didn't see Tony Thompson's last fight with Wlad (Saw parts of the first one pretty dull from what I remember ) so not entirely sure how good he is but I'm keen to see Price in with an ex Klitschko opponent pretty quick. Looks like a step in the right direction 11 on boxrec rankings too not that they are accurate lol. hoepfully get the European in after this can see Pulev vacating though to pursue World Honours. One fight for Price I'm not interested in is Chisora would rather he rebuilt himself with a win or two 1st.

If this is announced then it is good that it's in the USA where Price can get exposure and get a fight in the US against a pretty good fighter (by some way his toughest fight.) And also it is good that Thompson definately has loads of notice, so thus should rock up in good nick.

Looking at the schedule if it is indeed gonna be in the USA in February then surely it is on the undercard of Danny Garcia's next fight?

Agree. It is a good fight. It can be used --as much as fights can be-- to benchmark Price against Wlad. It also has the potential for a whiskers check, Thompson can sling that left (check out his sickening KO of Jeremiah Johnson if you require evidence). Hopefully it won't be the 'Oliver McCall' moment for Big Dave. Looking forward to it already.

Won't happen, Price wants to defend the Lonsdale belt two more times so he can keep it. More than likely it will be against Michael Sprott if he can get passed Edmund Gerber. Thompson may happen in late 2013, but I can't see him risking losing the Lonsdale belt to fight Thompson.

Why would he lose the British title?

He only needs to defend once more to keep the Lonsdale.

And a fight vs Thompson would not have any effect on the British title - he's American!?

If his next fight (Feb/March) was a British title defence I'd have thought the best option would be Towers, purely because he has a high ranking with the EBU and a win over him should get him into a mandatory spot for the European.

He has to fight a mandatory challenger to win the belt outright.

Because he has mandatories to fight in defense of the Lonsdale belt. I always figured if someone strayed from the rankings and fought someone not even in the Commonwealth, the belt would be stripped. And its ironic someone said the Thompson fight was already planned, we had Franny Smith on our radio show two weeks ago and he never mentioned it one iota when I lambasted him for Price fighting a geriatric (Skelton).

There isn't even an eliminator on the horizon for the British heavyweight title. Price doesn't have a mandatory as yet. The BBBofC should just give him the title for keeps in the absence of any legitimate contenders.

From what they where saying its Thompson in feb, Fury in stadium fight in the summer and then the winner of that going onto a Klitschko in november.

No, they shouldn't.

Haye, Fury, Chisora, Sprott, Rogan & Towers (if he beats Browne) are all legitimate contenders that Price hasn't beaten.

Price looks great offensively, worry a bit about him defensively tho.

Maloney says here Price will be fighting Thompson at Liverpool Echo Arena then wants to defend the British title against Fury or Chisora then a world title fight next year.

Interesting what he said about tonights fight between Johnson in Fury. He's been speeak to the WBC president who says it is not a World Title eliminator as Johnson is not even in the top 20. He is 32 by the WBC in the latest rankings.

Do we know if it is going to be a 10 rounder or 12?. Away from that it is a good fight against another tall awkward southpaw who has got decent power and would provide a decent barometer to see how he stacks up at World level.

I don't see anything special in Tony Thompson, he's certainly not got enough to trouble Price (IMO). I'd be surprised if Thompson see the end of the 4th. Bring on Wlad Klitschko, I can't wait to see Price put Wlad on his arse, it's been a long time coming
