But fair play to Byrne great performance at such short notice.

I got it wrong. Fair play to Byrne, full respect and he is a nice fella but from what I'd seen in the ring I didn't think he had a performance like that in him. Great job Deano

Byrne deserves credit but he's sill incredibly limited, he sounds delusional when reviewing himself after any fight. Seems a nice lad but I'd worry for him, takes a lot of punishment at times and might even be showing signs of it.

What, somebody's programme ?
Only jokin Peggy.
The number of times this happens. Last minute man performs miracles.
Jon - from the inside do you think this has a lot to do with motivation - or lack of it - from the man facing someone new ?

I agree with all this but you've got to salute Bryne's efforts last night, he was excellent (in terms of what he has produced recently).
He may be delusional but I'd say that's a common trait in boxing - fighters, journo's, posters, et al!!!

To be fair bit of both Dean Byrne hung tough and took advantage of the Jones laid bck attitude and i think it was hard for jones to be 100 percent when he thought he had an easy win in front of him.

I thought Byrne nicked it. Brilliant effort.

Oh yeh cracking effort and big heart, no doubt. Fair play to him for that. I had high hopes for Dean for a while but I don't think the wild card years were kind to him.

I haven't seen the fight, but when I have seen Byrne previously he's been shocking. Plus, his intelligence is severely lacking. I was surprised to see him fight better and indeed more smartly. I didn't think he had it in him. Fair play.

jones looked in nowhere near as good condition as he did for the Brook Fight

Thought it was funny that immediately afterwards Eddie talked Purdy-Jones still, I would have thought Jones had blown his cred for a third return to Britain and the fight should be Byrne-Purdy. Or is that too logical?

It should be Carson Jones v Dean Byrne, over ten or twelve, for some nonsense belt. And Byrne should get plenty of notice.
But maybe Carson Jones is a bit pricey for that? If that's the case, then yes, Byrne should be given an opportunity to fight Purdy.

The rematch is interesting and a good idea, doesn't need a nonsense belt though.

let's not get too excited here, it was more of what Jones did not do, then what Byrne did and when Jones did show interest in the bout, he had Byrne on the edge of breaking, did anyone see the cuts on Byrne's face, plus in answer to Byrne's short notice claim, he was due to fight on a Goodwin show on the same night, to which he was listed for some time, so he would have been plenty fit enough, after all it was only an 8 rounder, not 12, in the last round Jones did nothing but walk forward, there was not the same pace to his game, that was there for the Brook fight, maybe he has lost confidence after his defeat in a hard fight, maybe he could not get up for it, who knows, one thing we do know is that it was not the same Carson Jones that faced Brook. It was not long ago that Byrne was beat an almost tko'ed by novice Terry Holmes.

I think it's a tad harsh to say he's blown his cred based on that one performance. Late notice change of opposition, with a different skill set. Kudos to Byrne though - didn't expect that from him.
I'd still much rather see Purdy vs Jones - which has tear-up written all over it - than Purdy vs Byrne.

Thought Dean did enough to win that one to be honest. I gave him rounds 1,2,6,7&8.

Maybe but harsh fact is he's fought here twice without winning now. He's ok, don't get me wrong, but with his recent record it's a very hard sell to make out Jones is anythhing special. He's a decent pro who caught Brook on a very bad night then drew with a very late sub. How many chances does he get? There are other fighters out there, let's have a look at some of them. The world doesn't stop at Mr 0-1-1. I'd prefer it if they gave the payday to British fighters, not a fella who couldn't even be arsed last time he came over.

I do see where you're coming from Glyn, but I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt because a) he put in a great effort against Brook, and b) I just think Purdy vs Jones will be a cracking fight.

Told me lots of things this:
1 - Terry Holmes from Luton is a terrific prospect.
2 - Dean Byrne has some big bollacks.
3 - Carson Jones is the most straight-line fighter I've ever seen.
4 - How did Kel Brook struggle with him
5 - Lee Purdy was unlucky - could have won a fight here of some significance.
6 - Frankie Gavin would smash Carson up....
