Earlier today, ***** reported that Floyd Mayweather Jr. might be awarded mandatory status in the WBC's junior welterweight rankings due to the reluctance that of the WBC's other top contenders have exemplified when it comes to facing Mayweather. Golden Boy Promotions, CEO Richard Schaefer read this report with great interest and just minutes ago he's informed ***** that Jesse James Leija, the WBC's #7 rated junior welterweight contender is ready to fight Mayweather on May 22. And unlike many of the potential Mayweather opponents, Leija is ready to sign first and talk later. "James is #7 in the WBC. He's an experienced at 140 pounder, so if Floyd wants to test his skills at junior welterweight, he doesn't need to look any further." ***** then told Schaefer we understand HBO doesn't want to make the fight, to which he replied, "that's accurate, but we feel James deserves to be in that position. He's proven himself over the years and he's ready to prove himself again." Schaefer also informed us that Juan Lazcano-Jose Luis Castillo is now a go for the June 5 Oscar De La Hoya-Felix Sturm under card. Lazcano-Castillo will officially be announced for the WBC title shortly after Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s gets his May 22 bout consummated.

Who wants to watch Mayweather back-peddaling like f*ck against the legit 10 stoners?

He should stay at lightweight and fight Freitas and Lazcano.

I agree with Kilburn, but saying that i think Mayweather would run rings around Lazcano who looked flat footed at times against Johnston and only Freitas's power punching would keep there fight interesting. I am a huge Freitas fan but he has badly gone backwards in terms of technical ability, last time against Grigorian he just threw wild hooks and showed no defence at all, plus only 2 of the 4 knockdowns were legitimate...Mayweather beats both of these lads i think.

I don't view PBF as a runner. His defensive wizzardry is such that he does not have to rely on his legs to get him out of trouble.

There is a place for Mayweather in the talent-laden 140 lb division and I doubt too many will be calling him out.

Leija is as old as God's dog, but he can still have a fight and he managed to give an out-of-sorts Tszyu a few difficult rounds.
Floyd is about due a gimme and whilst this fight doesn't get the pulse racing, it would be sufficient to see what he has to offer at the 10 stone limit.

If Mayweather can't make an impression at lightweight (in terms of strength/power) then what's he going to do a further 6 lbs up?

Not saying the super-talented Floyd can't beat one of the top guys with his speed but if it's excitement you're after then you better look elsewhere.

I think Floyd needs to sort out his life outside the ring first, the way things are looking he may end up biteing a pillow on D-Block!

So much talent, so young and rich but always seems to be getting himself in trouble, I just dont understand it.

Today in a Las Vegas court, lightweight champion Floyd Mayweather’s lawyer, Karen Winckler, showed up to deal with her client’s most recent charge of misdemeanor domestic violence and his missed court date Tuesday resulting in the issue of a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was dropped today, but the prosecutor upgraded the charge to a “third strike felony” since Mayweather has twice been convicted of domestic violence in the past.

Mayweather is being charged with hitting the mother of three of his children this past December. He has previously pled guilty to two counts of domestic violence against his other child’s mother.

Now that the charge has been upgraded to a felony, Mayweather will be facing a possible sentence of 5 years in prison along with a $10,000 fine.

The next court date for these charges will be April 23. Mayweather is attempting to stage his next fight in the ring on May 22.
