What the hell are purse bids?????

Yeah, something about the BBBoC issuing a call for purse bids for a British heavyweight title match between David Price and Tyson Fury, with any match subject to the winning bid to take place by the end of March 2013!
How exactly does this work????? And how is it suppose to help make the fight between them happen?????

The promoters involved bid on what the total purse for the fighters will be. If by a certain deadline there is no agreement between the 2 camps, the highest wins, and the outfit which won then has to produce a small amount of the whole before a certain date.
That's my simplistic, and limited understanding of the process, I'm sure others can contribute more.

Promoters are invited to submit an application to stage the contest. The promoter with the largest financial bid wins.
I think the champion gets 70%
If the champion turns down the fight he would be stripped and if the challenger refuses he gets dropped in the rankings.
While I guess Fury will turn down the fight, he would prob take it if the purse bid was big enough.

Yes it did after David Price steamrollered John McDermott for the English title at the Olympia in Liverpool to become mandatory challenger for the Lonsdale as it was a fight that also doubled up as a final eliminator for the British title, but just before the bids were opened Fury decided to dump the belts rather face Price. The whole purse bids process as whole is open to all promoters who are currently licensced by the Board of Control and who ever places the winning bid stages the fight within the timeframe mentioned by the Board.

Well in the case of David Price vs Tyson Fury I would argue highly unlikely!
Even if there is a high purse involved for both fighters I still don't see Fury taking it for two reasons.....
1: Because it could ruin a potential showdown with one of the Klits, which he is so close to achieving.
2: Because even if Fury got paid a lot of money, David Price would still be getting paid more due to him being the champion, 70/30 split I think. I think Fury would refuse this out of principal!

And if it is going to be a K Brother that is going to be doing it is most likely going to Wladimir who will have the honours to spark out Tyson Fury as Wladimir is too powerful and experienced for Fury and that Vitali is focussing on his political career in their native Ukraine. Although Fury would put up a brave and determined resistance against Wladimir. As for Fury and David Price it is going to happen somewhere down the line as it one of the best match ups not just domestic in the Heavyweight division but probably in the world as it would be a genuine 50/50 match up in my eyes when you take into account how Fury has improved over the last 4/5 fights he has had with his uncle Peter and Price's KO power.

This won't happen now for two main reasons, the first of which is the same as last time it went to bids. Fury fights for a promoter who has a Channel 5 contract while Price is contracted to allegedly and was with Sky the first time. Fury is, by some distance, C5's main boxing attraction and will not be fighting on BN anytime soon. This is why both parties offer the other huge amounts to fight on 'their' channel, rather than wait for purse bids. The second reason, as has been implied, is that Fury, having turned down the fight before, would be loopy to accept the short end of the purse when he is highly ranked by the WBC to win the British title he's already held. Fighters always say "it'll be a bigger bout down the road" but in this case it's true if both stay undefeated say another year.

The bid that is put in by various promoters (it isn't confined to just the promoters of each fighter) is what both boxers will earn. Champ gets a majority (can't remember the percentages). It is then up to the promoter to try and make that money back with profit to make promoting the fight worth his while.
The Board calling these purse bids won't make the blindest bit of difference. Fury and Hennessy have made it clear they consider Fury to be the bigger draw (due to his higher ranking) and thus believe he deserves the higher end of the purse. So they are never gonna go for this where Fury will end up getting the short end. So they might sit down to see if they can agree something before it comes to purse bids but they won't in a month of sundays get it on after a purse bid situation.

Do you think Fury will shoot for a shot at Vitali or deliberately hold off till he vacates? I think the latter.

Maloney should let Hennessy stage it on Ch5 IMO or compromise and stage it in Liverpool on Ch5 as I'm sure CH5 will pay more than Loaded TV and surely Liverpool is the best place for ticket sales
It'll get Price (who's gonna be a future megastar) some good UK publicity and there's no way I can see Fury winning this contest. Shut the BIG gob up in front of the nation

I agree with this. For me it's an easy fight for Price and one that if he wins in style would propel him towards a Klitschko. There's no way the Fury camp will take it next year though.

According to Maloney in Boxing News, yes and that's why he can't fight on Loaded yet.
As for Vitali, Arreola-Stiverne winner may get the next shot so Fury could have another year until he's the mandatory, with Johnathon Banks ready for the Arreola-Stiverne victor in a final eliminator. So Fury can wait for Vitali's retirement if he wants to.
