Just saw on Sky Sports News that David Price is to take on Tony Thompson in February in Liverpool

Good step up in class to be honest for Pricey which I'm really excited about. If he beats Thompson he would of gained so much experience i just hope he gets some rounds under his belt in this fight. but i just feel if that right hand lands half flush Thompson will be down and out. but you never know in boxing nice to see Price tested.

As an American Thompson isn't eligible to fight for any of the titles the BBC say Price will defend on that date.

I didn't bother looking at the second sentence and just assumed the poster was suggesting Thompson wasn't an American.

Nothing surprises me with the BBC and boxing, their coverage isn't great.

There was a local journalist who reported on the Lee Haskins fight on one of the local news websites and he said Haskins knocked his opponent down with a right hand when it was actually a left hand that did it, and he got 2 of the knockdowns in the wrong rounds. It makes you wonder if some of the journalists who report on boxing actually bother to watch the fights they are reporting on sometimes.

ive got to admit the last two opps for fury and price (johnson and thompson) have really surprised me. on paper these are huge step ups.

however looking at Johnsons lacklustre performance we will probably get the same from Thompson. these guys have had their world title shots and wont get another.

anyway surely thompson will extend Price ....

Price wins early I think.

Good step up and a better opponent than Johnson.

Hopefully it'll be a good fight. I'd also like to see Price fight Chisora or Fury in his next fight, get his Lonsdale belt. Then another Thompson level fight before fighting a couple of fringe contenders and calling out Klitschkos.

I appreciate a Fury or Chisora fight seem unlikely. But I'm just saying what I'd like to see.

Good to see Price finally stepping up.

After his last two contests, I was worried that he was going to announce Joe Bugner or Frank Bruno as his next opponent!

The HW division is not great right now, but Thompson is the best he can hope to face outside of Fury (not happening as the two of them are like squabbling bitches), Haye (semi retired & has bigger fish to fry) & Helenius (would be a good test, but no better than Thompson).

It`s not a bad fight, but I`d much prefer to see him in there with Helenius or Pulev.

Both Thompson and Johnson have more natural talent than what they care to show - when they step into the ring, they survive their punch output goes to next to zero and a both relatively inflated in the rankings in comparison to their actual achievements.

I think Thompson will just end up with little output and be a glorified punching bag. He generally has a good defence and chin - this may test Price but I cannot see Thompson winning, I cannot see him winning a round.

I see Thompson knowing to much and beating price comfortably on points.

Any idea where the fight will be shown? It's not appearing on the allegedly schedule?

Thompson is pretty old and knackered ...bit like most of Price's opponents so far :)

People are too critical cause both Fury and Price are taking the steps in the right direction. Thompson is a step up in the right direction along with Johnson. Look at the quality both fighters have been in. You got to look at it like this if they go into a world title shot they wont earn near as much as if they get themselves into a mandatory/

Pricey is probably planning a World Title fight early 2014 in my opinion, I may be way off but I think he has to be sensible about or he'll lose for sure, he's moving in the right direction, I just hope Chisora gets his licence back because Towers and the like are no match for him.

While I am perfectly fine with this fight, I wonder why Price isn't getting "forum flak" for fighting three consecutive 40+ fighters.

Again, I'm OK with this fight and Price's previous two, but the lack of cynical whingeing is quite conspicuous by its absence!

Price needs to sack Mismatch and get a proper promoter.

I can see Thompson getting injured and Towers being the opponent.

most are expecting a negative showing from thompson. he is also actually coming off a beating, in the wlad rematch, i believe. price may have to use feints, open the guy up, cope with possible frustration before landing, so it could be agood learning experience.

price really looks the part, when knocking guys out. i think we need to know what happens when a resilient type keeps coming and keeps punching.

price has a similar kind of talent that haye had coming up as a cruiserweight. someone like haye victim fragomeni, tough, outgunned but keeps on coming...that's the kind of opponent i'd like to see. when you punch with that level of speed and snap, you're usually lacking in another department, for insance stamina or chin...

It might look a lot like Fury v Johnson, but with a stoppage.

I doubt Pricey will be showboating after a two punch combination though.

I think if Price is getting decent knockouts, so people are more prepared to look past the fact that he's fought a few pople past their best. (Or in Audley's case somebody who never lived up to their gold medal promise.) If Price had looked crap fighting these people, people would probably be all over him. Whereas Fury was knocked on his backside by the mighty Neven Pajkic, Price has been winning and winning well, even if it has been against people old enough to be his dad.

Also, Price is a lot more humble. You don't hear Price making an absolute fool of himself with stupid rants about beating people and their gay lovers Bellew. So, even when you're not comparing records, people just don't like Tyson Fury.
