Lewis v Rahman II

A nasty bout of flu means I've spent much of the last couple of days wallowing in my favourite fights.
Watching the Rahman rematch a couple of things struck me:
- at the start of the SBO broadcast, round 1, Ian Darke who I trust, mentioned Lewis was guaranteed $11m with Rahman "only" $5m and a slice of PPV. How can this be given Lewis was challenger? Was this part of the rematch contract which Team Lewis fought and won in court?
- I hadn't previously noticed Gary Shaw. He looked firmly in the Lewis camp. Was he part of Main Events? If so what did he do for them?
Thanks!

Unless it is a defence that has gone the purse bids route then the purse split can be whatever the 2 sides negotiate.

I remember when Bruno fought Tyson the 2nd time. Bruno was champ but Tyson got five times more money!

I realise that, but on this occasion Rahman had all the leverage and as far as I can recall, Lewis simply wanted his rematch. Coming out of the first bout Rahman acted like a free agent, eventually being seduced by King. It just seems a very strange split.

More I think! Bruno got £3m from memory and Tyson $25m.
Bruno had signed a cast iron contract with Bunny prior to the McCall fight and Bunny was then in bed with King.
Tyson, though King, had signed a $200m six fight deal with the MGM Grand. That deal allowed for one non MGM fight which turned out to be Mathis Jr.

Well I think Rahman realised that he wouldn't make as much money fighting anyone else, regardless of what split he got from anyone else. John Ruiz I think was the other champ at the time so I think Rahman realised that 10% of a hell of a lot (or whatever the split was) was better than 70% of hardly anything.

You'd probably have to leaf through the contracts for LEWIS vs RAHMAN I to get a good handle on why the contracts for LEWIS vs RAHMAN II were what they were.

Didn't he split with CKP and go with DKP for this fight?

The bit I loved was the build up when Rahman thought he was being clever by questioning Lennox's sexuality at every opportunity and Lewis responded with something like "bring me your sister and we'll see" causing Rahman to flip.
Lennox had regained his championship with that moment.

I have to, Chisora-Haye is a better pre fight tear up. This is kinda girly.

I don't think Haye would have lamped Chisora had they been a week or two away from fighting.

King understood boxing, and boxers, more than anyone who has ever operated within the sport. Well, Lewis aside, as Lennox played Don like a violin, King once gave Lewis a car after hearing whispers that Lewis might be prepared to do business with him long-term.
Was it King that gave Lennox $12m for his first defence of his WBC belt against Tucker in an attempt to woo him?

Didn’t Lewis have to go through the courts or threaten it before the rematch was granted? I seem to remember King trying to wriggle out of the clause or say it wasn’t legit or something…

It was originally Rahman vs David Izon with I think Tyson maybe on the "undercard". Certainly Rahman vs Izon was announced.
Lewis was havining none of it.

Waaay wrong. Tyson $8 to Bruno's $3.
Tyson was the star in this Showtime US PPV.

Yes he cut Tucker's $2 purse down to $1 and paid Lewis a seductive $9. DK lost a lot of money on that night despite Chavez and McClellan/Jackson on the undercard. Tucker was never a draw and no one cared about Lewis in the US.
