There was a really good article about the weasels that the UFC employ to hunt down this stuff (& also free-flowing bodies of water, if you get my drift) last year on I think ESPN or somewhere & they virtually admitted that they're actually thick as pigshit & are reduced to trolling around forums asking for links off people. I'm quite certain that boxing TV rights owners can't be far behind them.

You can of course find all this & more using the search engine of your choice; but it appears that the powers that'd sell you air to breathe are only ever bothered about this shit when we (the public) dare talk about it openly. So let's not give them a chance, right?

The majority of the people running these sites are leeches anyway, just copying sets from elsewhere and selling them.

I am lucky, as I film the shows myself, much easier.

Some of us subscribe to a great many subscription TV networks, which is very expensive, trust me, but we simply cannot subscribe to everything due to "territorial restrictions", however much we may want to do so. Not everyone wants "something for nothing" by watching a stream. But, yes, an aficionado does want to watch all the boxing he or she can, by whatever means available. People "spreading the word" about Sweetboxingvideos on open forums sounded the death knell for this very useful site. By posting details of streaming sites on open forums people are almost guaranteed to get the sites shut down. I echo the words of Datsue: This isn't a rant, it isn't having a go at anyone. If you want to get sites shut down by posting details on an open forum, keep right on doing it.

Sweetboxing didn't get shut down, they used Megaupload and Megavideo which the FBI shut down when they busted Kim Dotcom.

His body of work getting deleted made him lose his mojo. But others exist, about 12-15 actually and they always be there.

Sport is disposable and little is done to curb sports sites, unless it's the Premier League or UFC themselves - and even then, only certain countries will honour their take down requests. The outcome of a sporting event means little as its in the public domain instantly anyway.

The DMCA agreement is purely for the protection of Movies and Music, where billions are lost in revenue per product illegally obtained.

But piracy is being tackled at the technology level now. With encryption and watermarking of music - and all video devices now use HDMI, they're the leads that your tv connects to your sky box.

Laptops don't have HDMI in, just HDMI out so you can't rip Blu rays. You can buy a black magic capture card, which has HDMI input - but plug a sky box into it and the built-in piracy of HDMI 1.4 will skew all the colours to shades of purple.

The above only affects HD 1080i outputs from SKY and other paid boxes. Standard Def 480p comes out as normal. Eventually SKY will switch off standard def output channels and only distribute HD for that reason (enhanced copyright protection) and when they do, lots of streams will dry up.

At present anyone with a £19.99 dazzle capture card, connected to the composite-out on their TV box, then plugged into their laptop can stream whatever they like. Because of this, combined with 40-50 streaming sites emerging - the problem is absolutely infinite and cannot be solved.

It's literally like wack-a-mole for company's protecting their broadcasts - and then the streamer only needs a site registered on an eastern bloc server, who don't even have a contact email address for DMCA complaints, and they absolute never going to beat streamers.

The solution is simple. Broadcasters should offer a reduced rate, say £4.99 for a high quality web stream, instead of trying to butcher people £15 for it.

PPV events are paid for by groups of guys, with beer and a pizza. Streams are usually watched by individuals who would have to stump the lot up themselves.

But like I said, technology will eventually stop it, not legal notices.

What you say about broadcasters offering streams at a reduced rate makes sense. I subscribe to Wealth TV's online service. For something like $10 a year you get a crystal-clear picture and the technology is simple -- the Wealthtv player pops right up once a subscription is activated. Wealthtv showed the recent Montreal card in its entirety (Pascal vs Kuziemski main event). For me, that was worth the ten bucks right there. Interesting to learn about the technology involved in Internet streams. It seems clear to me that the technology is in place for boxing aficionados to see every fight everywhere in the world, and I am sure that many fans would support webcasts for a reasonable price. I agree with you that it seems unfair to ask people to pay the same price to watch an event on a computer screen as people are paying to watch the event on their flat-screen TVs in the comfort of their living rooms.

I know your general point is about capturing a TV stream, but ripping a Blu Ray disk is nothing to do with HDMI but everything to do with the BR drive, you're ripping a disk so it does it via the SATA channel.
