Just seen on his facebook page Glyn has been honoured with a MBE in the New Years Honours list.
Well done to him, he works tirelessley for the kids and boxing in Sheffield. Its great that he has been honoured, boxing doesnt get much recognition for the work that it does and Glyn goes way over and above. Nice one Glyn Rhodes MBE

So pleased for my buddy. He's been on a full scale wind up for two weeks now. I was convinced his announcement was that he was emigrating but when he finally made his announcement I was so happy for him.
Only Glyn could put banners up saying Bon voyage !!
Stand up and take a bow Glyn Rhodes MBE.

Well done. A breath of fresh air to hear of a New Years honour going to somebody who really deserves it. Instead of the usual popularity contest winners like Wiggo, Ennis, Storey etc

How can anyone say the likes of Ennis, Farah et al dont deserve this recognition?

They have worked very hard all their lives to achieve what they have done, made sacrifices and deserve all the accolades they get.

So yes, what you say is idiotic and smacks of working class hero bollocks

That is all

Typical tabloid reading response :D

They are all lucky enough to be doing a sport they love for a living. A living that has also enabled alot of them to become millionaires at early ages.

Think of the people who dedicate as much time doing their own jobs. And their spare time helping others.
But then again in this celebrity obsessed society ... if your not in the tabloids .. you don`t deserve recognition..

The overwhelming majority of people who receive honours are not well known celebrities, sporting or otherwise. If you took the time to read the list of recipients that would be made abundantly clear to you. If, though, your only insight is a cursory glance at the front pages (on- or offline) you'll be none the wiser and remain under the mistaken belief that all the awards go to big names. "Glossop Lollipop Lady Gets MBE" might make a nice story in the local newspaper but it's not going to be any more than a byline amongst the hundreds of other honoured folk in a national paper's recipient list.

None of the people you mentioned are cash millionaires*.

*Wiggins might be now but I doubt it.

Coincidence that the well known media names are towards the top of the list .. and the lesser known names towards the bottom?

*Wiggins was a cash millionaire before this years TDF*

Luck has very little to do with it in any of the cases you mentioned though. Bucket loads of graft and sacrifices.

Care to explain why Wiggins doesn't deserve to be acknowledged in the honours list?

What's your opinion on this:

The honours system is such a joke. Cyclists (the most dirty drugs sport in the world) as knights of the realm...

I wonder if they will revoke the honours bestowed on our beloved cyclists and athletes when they fail drugs tests in a few years?

They didn't revoke Linford Christies
