Outrageous. Saw him at the WSB in Newport but didnt get a chance to talk.

He seemed like a really nice bloke with it too.

Great to see a retired boxer trying something new and looking great for it.

Looks in great shape, but then he always was. Likeable guy too, never really liked how he was treated towards the end of his career.

It's definitely got value, but as you rightly say, it can be a bit cult-ish and adherents don't take kindly to criticism.

The Crossfit evangelists have managed to turn good old circuit training into a quasi-religion and have gotten rich out of it. The God Channel of fitness. Some of it's disciples are, like religious nuts: needy, unhinged, proselytising weirdos. Others are stable, rational individuals who simply like the concept and get benefit from it. It is what it is.

Not sure I entirely agree with that.... perhaps not given the opportunities post Hamed his form kind of warranted. One of his most impressive performances was his destruction of Andrew Matobola (who was quite fancied at the time).

I think after he beat Calvo he should have got a world title fight. And he was scheduled to face Espinosa - which would have been a very tough ask but not necessarily out of reach (kind of like Burns vs Martinez).

But in the end it only lead to a fight with Ramirez, who cruelly stopped Robinson when Steve was arguably up in the fight and with the finishing line in sight. That really was the end of Robinson - but yet he got opportunities but now as a traveling fighter... had he won those fights he would have been back in the world title mix - but he just came up short.

Before being stopped by Harrison - he nailed Scott with a body shot that doubled him over.

Sad end vs Conway - but I wouldn't call Conway a young lion.

In truth, after Ramierez - Steve should have moved up to 9stone 4 - as there was a world champion in that weight from his neck of the woods - with a bit of history (coached by Steve's old trainer - the cruelly un recognised Ronnie Rush)... both had links with allegedly.... one massive missed opportunity.

Ronnie Rush - not many coaches can say they trained two big four world champions and yet get hardly recognised at a boxing event!

I meant the way he was fed to Hamed. He was then back to being buried down on undercards, being the opponent or the away fighter. In stark contrast to the way Hamed was treated/promoted.

Granted, FW probably took him to the top of where he was going to be and he was always going to be a leisure centre type of guy than arenas but you got the impression he had a reasonably high fall from grace.

Yeah, that I agree with. Disgusting treatment. I'll never forget when sports network moved to sky. Frank and Gary Norman did a press conference. Said how frank Bruno was the biggest star in British boxing.... Described Hamed as the Golden egg. Then Robinson (THE OUTFITS ONLY WORLD CHAMPION) was treated as an after thought.

I was in ramirez' corner that night as glyn rhodes had 'looked after him' while he was in uk for robbo fight and after watching him train i was more suprised than any1 that he turned the trick v robinson.

Like Chris Eubank and others, Steve Robinson was not a world champion. The WBO belt was a promoter's trinket. Steve was a really good fighter who I enjoyed watching but he was never close to being the best featherweight on the planet. At that time, Bruno was the biggest star in British boxing and Naz was the golden egg.

I would say Steve was in the top 5 or so best in the world at his prime and a shame he never got into unifications cause it might not have been beyond the realms of possibility.... The featherweight devision at the time was solid but not with a stand out star.

My apologies Sports Network did have another world champion also - Nigel Benn.

I would say Bruno and Eubank's fame at that time was very comparible in terms of fame. I just thought it was quite disrepectful in that press conference when Robinson hardly got a mention.

I do know what you mean but I suppose that's just the realities of the sport. The WBO was pretty much just a vehicle for both FW and BH to have British 'World Championship' promotions and fighters. I don't believe for a second that either Frank or Barry ever believed any of their WBO champs were the best in the world and the overlooking of Robinson at that presser could be seen as, witting or unwitting, evidence of that.
