(if this turns out to be a wind up I'll look a bit stupid).

It won't be a wind up, mate. If some thick fornicator(s) with more money than sense - probably Arabs - are prepared to throw enough of it in Steve and Roy's direction, they'll take it and get the fight on. It's easier than working for a living.

Christ almighty, this is an embarrassment to the sport.

I honestly think Collins is desperate for a packet.

Collins-Jones jnr its hardly a Tyson-Foreman 1991 or Mayweather-Pacman. Collins always wildly exaggerates his importance.

He beat a beginning to fade Eubanks by a whisker twice in his own backyard than he beat a Benn prone to injury or unwilling to fight anymore . Collins looked good during his SM reign but he would have probably been beaten by Malinga or Reid.

Reid v Collins
&
Calzaghe v Collins

are the real fights we missed. I dont think Jones jnr would have taken more than 5 rounds to brutally expose Collins back in 95-97.

Jones jnr of course has been in serious decline since 2004 and this would be a new low to go with his fighting Polish non entities.

Really worrying if this happens, looks like we're getting some great fights in 2013 to raise the profile of boxing then we have people like Jones, Collins, Harrisson who shouldn't really be boxing to drag it back down. Terrible to say but there is a fatality out there waiting to happen.

Collins wants some money, end of it! He is not super rich and I think he wants a pay day regardless of the result.

Jones' chin has completely gone, even though Collins is long retired, he will probably be able to thump him senseless.

Very sad indeed to see someone who was as superlative as Jones turning into a terrible joke.

No doubt about it, in his interview yesterday he blatantly admitted he was only doing it for the money.

Sad state of affair for both fighters.

You are totally right. I heard it on the radio yesterday too. Collins made no secret this is all about money.

i think this is an ill advised move by Steve Collins( whom im a great fan of)its well documented that he collapsed when getting ready to spar Howard Eastman at Lennox Lewis College in Hackney probably 10 years ago now.

I think it was '99, mate. He was thinking of coming out of retirement for a fight against Calzaghe. A doctor told him there and then never to box again.

I remember hearing that he got knocked in sparring by Howard Eastman , it was then a doctor was supposed to tell him not to fight again,Collins said in the press at the time that this was why he did not fight Calzaghe etc
Only for a few months later to claim he was gonna fight at CW
Bottom line is Collins best wins was against past their prime fighters ,in Benns case this was far more evident who had nothing left by then .

Yeah, Collins' best wins were over faded fighters - that can be said about a lot of fighters (Naz, Calzaghe etc).

However, people forget his early career and giving the likes of Mike McCallum a hard night and destroying Chris Pyatt. Collins was a good fighter, yes he capatilised on some great money for some faded fighters - but my belief was that he would have given Nigel and Chris a run for their money at any stage.... and the 2nd fight with Eubank especially wasn't close - the cards were horrible that night.

Having said that - I cannot believe any sane person is giving him a chance against Jones Jnr at this stage. Roy quite recently gave Denis Lebedev a fair old fight untill getting horribly sparked - but was competitive throughout. It could be argued that lebedev is the #1 Cruiser in the world.

Steve aint fought in 17 years..... people say Roy is shot...... well what about Collins he's pushing 50.

If it is scheduled in the UK - it won't happen, unless they go the Luxemburg route.

Believe or not, I could see this selling in Ireland and I think the BUI would be stupid enough to license it. Collins is somewhat of a cult hero over here and he is well able to market himself. Jones has shown over the past few years that he will travel anywhere so can't see why not for this one if the cash was right.

To be fair to Calzaghe, his best win was Kessler, who was in his physical prime. Lacy also wasn't faded, perhaps not that good, or not as good as we thought, but certainly not faded.

Was it just me thinking that Lebedev was simply TOO respectful of Roy in much of the fight?

Typical Jones...still searching for soft touches. Starts chasing a fight for a bloke who is nearly 50.

No different to when he was at his peak.

Just hope they are strict on the testing...
