Matt Hatton is proof positive that if you're equipped with a serious work ethic and a pair of boulders, you can do all right in boxing with limited skills. He's done way more than I thought he would after seeing him as a kid, way more. I respect him a lot.

Very true. Throw in free elite level training camps and guaranteed fights without having to sell a ticket and you could be on to something.

Very true. Throw in free elite level training camps and guaranteed fights without having to sell a ticket and you could be on to something.

He still had to put himself through it and having an older brother who is as successful as Ricky was isn't all upside.

I think he's going to win this one. And this time I'm not moaning about the IBO ratings. It would be great to see Matthew win the title as he's always worked hard, never shirks in the gym and has learned his trade on the job. Watching him spar Steve Forbes all those years ago was like watching two slippery bars of soap trying to play chicken in a bubble bath.

Looks like him and Argenis Mendez might be doing an open workout so would might be good for you to go and see how he has or hasnt progressed since then

Well said. I was initially very dismissive of him, largely because of the way he was matched, but his dedication to making himself has turned me around and whatever happens he's earned my respect

Underrated he isnt the best in the world we all know that but he deserves a bit of luck as he is a fighter who has worked hard with limited skill. If he wins this he could earn himself a really a good fight to be honest.

i can see him taking sechecnko.
m hatton reminds me a lot of the shot lloyd honeyghan of 91-93 the way he is small for his weight but compensates with superior technique, bottle and a skilled craftsmens nous. If he hadnt been outweighed by 14 pounds by alvarez and had had a good punch at 154 he would have beaten saul. That was a fantastic effort and altho he lost clearly he exposed the shortcomings of alvarez in that fight.

The fact that his surname is Hatton has done his career prospects no harm either.

Is this fight still going ahead, looked on the date and there is no venue named and no undercard named

I respect him massively but sometimes a fighters just not good enough. He got his shot at Alvarez and hasn't beaten anyone to get himself a world title shot/shot at Senchenko

There was a piece in the boxing news about it this week. Venue is apparently Sandtown Convention Centre.

I did laugh at this quote from Van Heerden "There's going to be a lot of people coming from Manchester to support Hatton and we'll be turning the arena into a mini Vegas" - how do you turn an arena into a mini vegas? Also surely there won't be more than a handful of people who actually make the effort to get out there!

I was very impressed with Matt Hatton when he lost a points decisiion against Saul Alvarez. A lot of people thought he would be KOd. Sadly he doesnt have the skills of his big brother but hes a tough lad who prepares 100% for his fights.
