I was just wondering why we havent got more of them in boxing really. They appear to love the sport and having successfully integrated into society, but there dont seem to be many in the pros. Suprises me. the only 1 i can think of is the one hatton trains who beat rhodes. do u think its cos they r more into MMA?

There are a few in the pro's. I have seen quite a few myself live. But I do agree you would think there would be a lot more than there actually is.

Off the top of my head I can think of.

Pavel Senkovs (Mansfield)
Gregorz Proksa (Redhill)
Tomasz Mazurkiewicz (Manchester)
Danny Donchev (Tooting)

A lot of the guys without a job have gone home, the ones still here are too busy working and earning a living wage, although there are a few, particularly on the unlicensed circuit, who top up their wages having the odd fight here and there.

Not sure if i agree about there being loads on unlicensed bills .

Ive likely been to maybe 30 unlicensed shows in the last 18 months with lads from my gym

Think i recall maybe half a dozen eastern europeans on those shows and one of those has recently gone pro ,Paul Drago (who ive always thought was called Pav not Paul til recently but anyway )

I had an influx of polish lads joining the gym around a year ago but they fizzled away and only have 1 who comes occasionally now

Currently 21 active pro's, 11 of whom are from Poland

i wonder if its like when cubans go to america.

i forgot about that heavyweight as well albert something.

Pavel is a Slavic name derived from Paul. He's just Anglicising in the fashion of Andrzej (Andrew) Golota and countless others.

A lot of them have intergrated, but only in a round about way. For example, their social group are themselves and only themselves - they ain't comfortable intergrating with the locals - so unless there is a specific gym opened by an Eastern Euro, for the Eastern Euro's then I cannot see the numbers.

yeah i had a lad boxing on it that i was training, first show i took any lads to box on outside of east midlands .

Mc was a bit annoying though making up nicknames for boxers etc , my boxer was introduced as the Hillbilly and the bout as being at slobweight for the burger king title , which was odd considering hes black and a muscular super middleweight , in as good a shape as anyone in boxing .

Rabchenko and Proksa are the main two.
Certainly in Proksa's case I believe he's "sponsored" by people from back home.
Think he got a deal with a beer company ?
Think there's also a deal to show his fights on TV in his homeland.
Fondu brought Rabchenko over and he's signed to Hatton so again I suspect he's looked after.

haha that aussie is funny... but i must admit if i was fighting and he started chatting shite i wouldnt have been impressed.

i dont think they use him anymore...he hasnt been on the last few bills

I think with the Russian and Ukraine boxers its who you may have to deal with that puts off promoters getting involved with them.

Big difference between the North Welsh and South Welsh - my old mans family are from
Anglesey and they are clannish around there and Gwynned. South Wales, never had a
problem being English and Newport through to Cardiff might as well be England anyway.
