Just gearing myself up to buy tix for Peterborough for 2 Feb but just wanted reassurance it is actually going to happen. Fed up with buying advanced train tickets and arranging somewhere to stay and then finding the promotion cancelled or postponed. No opponents have been announced and the previous Peterborough show was cancelled. What do you think? Should I risk it?

As of today it's still definitely on. I have no idea if it will be cancelled between now and the 2nd though.

It's been all quiet in the local press and I haven't heard mention of any one on the right-hand side of the bill (other than TBA). Not especially unusual though...

A mate of a mate of mine was supposed to be making his debut on this card, but got canceled. I'm pretty sure the rest of the show is going ahead as planned though.

Leigh Wood is actively selling tickets for it so indications suggest to me that theirs no problem

I will be at this show and I spoke to the promoter yesterday and as of then it is still on.

Still no news of any opponents for this promotion!?

Its just not up on boxrec , i know Leigh Wood has Ashley Lane but no idea of the rest .

Heard decent things about a boxer called Jordan Gill who is meant to be on the card.

Me too, he's from Chatteris, which is only up the road from Peterborough, so I'd expect him to be on the bill.

Aye, my aunt and uncle live there as well and they were raving about him

apparently brought a fair few up to sheffield when on the brook-jones undercard

This is still definitely 100% on but according to Boxrec there are only 7 fights on, is this correct? I thought it was going to be 12 originally.

If the promoter or matchmaker would be kind enough to forward a list of bouts to the scheduling forum here on BoxRec we can get them listed asap. Not an awful lot of info out there re the undercard for this show.

If im honest it doesnt look a great bill but ive got tickets so ill be going , just not anything exciting on by the look of it .

It seems to be one of these small hall (although the venue is actually a decent size) bills that only really appeal to the mates of the "home" boxers. You can only get away with this for so long. It's a shame, as we used to have regular bills in Peterborough, but there's no way I'd shell out for this.

Spot on. Disappointing show overall. Cello Renda retained English Masters with a ninth round disqualification win over Tyan Booth (repeated hitting on the break), scrappy contest and questionable refereeing. Young Jordan Gill looked impressive defeating Sid Razak over 6x2s and debutant Sam Barron scored the only KO of the night. Local novices against journeymen all the way. Nice to see Brendan Ingle, Jimmy Tibbs, Spencer Oliver & Chris Pyatt working various corners, otherwise pretty forgettable.

Shame, but this is one of British boxing's major issues, tonnes of 40-36s, with little excitement involved.

I understand that novices pros need to learn, and can learn a lot sharing a ring with a journeyman, but don't expect people to spend £40 to watch glorified sparring.

That's true mate, sadly, just take a look at the British schedule at any given time. The obsession with pretty looking records really doesn't help boxing.

Its a shame if a punter goes for the first time and stumbles across one of those uncompetitive shows. They simply wont rush back to spend £30-£40.

Exactly BANG ON THE BUTTON MATE this is why some small hall promotors are struggling unless you give competitive matches Punters will go elsewhere Take a look at the White collar/unlicensed circuit etc OK some of the quality is not good but at least its competitive and that is what punters want and at the end of the day Punters have a choice where to spend their money rather rhan a 40-36/ 60-54 Card Some small hall promotors do very well but that is because they put competitive fights on and good luck to them

So, to sum up it was a low quality one sided show - not only that, the "promoter" did not even promote the show as it looks as though people on here didn't know what was going on.

If so, then there is no chance of attracting the more casual fan.

We always hear of how tough it is for these shows to make money etc. but it is because those involved just keep using the same forumula - get half a dozen lads on the left hand side of the bill, get them to sell 100 tickets each and find an opponent for them who doesn't mind losing.

In the meantime, the sport is in continual decline.

I went to Peterborough in the end.
I am not sure all the criticism is valid.
There are generally too many uncompetitive fights but, in defence of the promoters of Saturday's show - about three of the fights WERE competitive. I have been to promotions before where none of the bouts were competitive.
