See a interview a couple of days with eddie hearn saying this is life changing money for kell brook...If the arena holds £5,000 fans even with the tv deal surely the promoters are losing alot of money....COMMENTS PLEASE!

They usually announce pay in the US so I guess we will soon find out

Will they fill the arena with paying customers? I hope so but I doubt it. GBP probably have x number of TV dates to fill each year and they're prepared to make a loss on some promotions just to have control of as much TV boxing as they can. Providing the bottom line at the end of the year is black it doesn't really matter.

Have they even announced ticket info? I kept seeing people asking about it but never actually saw details. Does seem odd to me, I'm not expecting him to take loads out there by any stretch of the imagination but surely its worth announcing dates and tickets nice and early to encourage a few more to head over. At the end of the day its all money it seems obvious to me but maybe thats why I'm not a promoter.

I think we've got to be realistic here.
I doubt any casual fans will go.
Everyone that I know who is going, are hardcore fans of Kell, or family.
As such the communication on tickets etc is taken care of.
It isn't a Matchroom event, Kell's purse etc is not dependent upon attendance etc so there you have it.

It's a TV fight - pure and simple.

HBO have very deep pockets and it's the viewing figures they want, not bums on seats, which is the responsibility of the host promoter, GBP.

Even though you guys are correct and this is a TV fight, I think what I wrote earlier stands. GBP will put on shows that will make a loss purely to have as much of the market share, in terms of air time, as possible. Their end of year accounts are what matter.

P.S. for those travelling, consider holding off on buying your tickets. GBP promotions have recently given away tickets to some of their less attractive shows rather than having lots of empty seats.

The International TV rights to the fight will be sold to other networks around the world.It won't only be shown on HBO and Sky and that along with sponsorship/advertising money is where the money will come from

I know that. It's not a big fight globally, though. It's big in Sheffield and fairly big in St. Louis but less big in Dubrovnik and Baku, for example. I don't think the wider international take-up will be that significant in terms of revenue generation.

I personally think this is a middle-of-the-road American fight, but it is a big fight in the UK.

The States is a strange old place.

Who can forget Dawson vs Tarver had a live gate of around 550 people? and then after a terrible 12-round jab fest that put everyone to sleep.... they (HBO) went and made a rematch !!

Both picked up circa $1m+ for each fight too.

It is a funny old place. I suppose when you've got a declared population of 310 million and an actual population closer to 400 million, as the USA has, when it comes to boxing it's all about picking off that fraction of 1% that is interested and will pay to watch a show on television.

We have out tickets sorted but they are not even on general sale yet 5 weeks to go so deffo a loss

Of course it's life changing money. What fight has Brook had previously which could compare to the income he will get from this?

Mathew Hatton? - Nah, easily eclipsed by a fight in the US with Alexander.

I doubt anyone will lose money on this fight.

Depends on how much money we are talking about - Kell is not a "name" boxer in the UK (to the general public outside Sheffield), never mind in the US.

In reality, he will possibly be be lucky to get a purse of 3 figures (and that is in USD).

There will be many income streams other than just ticket sales - tv, advertising, sponsorship, merchandise etc.

The arena holds more than 20,000. Bundrage is the local guy top of the bill. Everything is paid for by TV and the MGM Grand Detroit, who are under-writing the bill.

BTW just to clarify to those above who thought otherwise, this is not on HBO but Showtime.

They've changed the venue to the much smaller Detroit Masonic Temple now, which only holds 5,000.
