This is the reason i will be tuning in tonight, it really has the making of a great fight. Its a hard one to pick a winner, Gethin is coming off a fight of the year contender against Johanneson, but did that result flatter to deceive as Johanneson wasn't the boxer he once was. Gethin has been far the busier of the 2, as he had 4 fights in 2012 compared to Murphys 1, which ended in a round as well.
So will stamina and actual fight pace be a problem in the later rounds for Murphy? He found that out against Theophane who stopped him in 11 in his last challenge for a British title, but on the plus side Murphy came in as a last minute replacement and it was at a higher weight against a naturally bigger guy.

Murphy only knows one way to fight, and he'll come out like a steam train from the first bell onwards. Gethin is a slow starter and there's always a chance he could get caught early by the charging Murphy, but Gethin has shown a good chin and took some big shots from Johanneson without wilting.

Loads of questions, and not much in the way of answers. I'm going for Gethin to break Murphy late on, probably having to come from behind to do it.

i agree Gethin will probably have to make up for Murphy's higher workrate early doors, Gethin has always been a slow starter.

I would like to see Gethin using his feet just a little bit, here. he has to back Murphy up, and can't really afford to fight him on the inside, as Murphy's shorter arsm vs Gethin's somewhat long-armed straight punching means Murphy has a decided advantage on the inside. I'd like to see Gethin just take the occasional step to the side to keep Murphy at distance

my tip is Gethin, points, and it should be a good-to-great fight IMO

It's the only reason I'm tuning in too. I expect Gethin to outbox Murphy but can't see it being one sided. I've put some money on Murphy at 13/8 it's no impossible task for him and would like to see him win.

John Rawling is an absolute scrotum. How he thought it was a left hand that first dropped McPhilbin before looking at the replay I don't know.

Rawling said that Grant Cunningham had a good win over Nick Blackwell also when it was his brother Dan.

In this day and age we should have the option of commentators or not on our tv's , im sure there used to be that option on Sky football. You could just have the crowd noise.

Gethin seems to be taking control sooner than i thought.

Dean Powell seems to revert back to a West Midlands accent when he goes back there.

It was not poor at all. It was ok, good even as a chief support. Murphy was blowing because he was getting hit with good body shots. Probably not the best match for Murphy, anyone who can take Carl J's shots all night and then come on strong is going to take some shifting.

I thought Murphy won maybe the first 3 and put in a good shift in the 7th but Gethin did look good. He was very controlled. Murphy's not a huge puncher so Gethin was able to take his best shots. Gethin- Crolla next maybe?

Terry Flannagan will cakewalk the British,hes easily one of the most improved boxers in the country

I think Mathews vs Gethin would be a cracker if Derry could stand up to the body shots.

Crolla v Mathews would be good too... Oh wait.

When i seen the ref step in i thought it was a bit premature as nothing was landing and although you seen Murphy losing heart it was a British title fight i thought he couldve gave him the benefit of the doubt and had Murphy protested he wouldve had the right to feel aggrieved but he looked quite relieved for the end to be honest.
fair play to Gethin though onwards and upwards,looking forward to seeing him attempt to unify the British and Commonwealth titles against either Crolla or Mathews

I ain't impressed by gethin tbh. He isn't powerful and does not have fast hands but his shots are well picked but he will need to find something against Matthews or crolla which will be a difficult and a different fight.

Murthy defiantly had the first 3 and then tired out really quickly tbh and from then on Gethin easily controlled the fight. Against Crolla and Matthews he won't be afforded that luxury.

Gethin is one tough man,takes a great shot.Murphy started well but Gethin absorbed everything he threw at him and then worked well to force a good stoppage.I did think Murphy wouldsee the final bell but the body shot really did take there toll.
