Apologies if a thread on this has already been started but didn't see one.

Chris Keane has just stopped Shane McPhilbin in the third and he looked really impressive - good power and picked his shots well. I'm not sure where McPhilbin goes from here though.

First time i've seen Keane fight, and i was impressed. Finished the fight well, looks like he will be at British title level soon. Needs a couple more learning fights, no need to rush him.

Keane looked decent but the first few rounds were pretty uncompetitive, McPhilbin didn't offer much. Mark McKray just stopped a young prospect Tom Shaw in 1.

Bit of an upset there, Tom Shaw destroyed in a round, he got shook up and instead of trying to grab he tried to swap punches, and got Ko'd

I think Shaw showed his inexperience there by trying to trade instead of getting to the bell and having time to recover and compose himself.

I completely forgot to put a spoiler alert in the title, sorry if that's annoyed anyone, I'll try and edit it if I can!!

Believe it or not , people will log onto a boxing forum and then on a thread about tonights fights. And then get the hump that results are on it

It was shown live on TV, so he hasn't spoiled anything.

I've seen Murphy and Gethin a couple of times each and thought this would be a really close points decision. I was surprised how well Gethin handled him, the body shots were excellent and the ref stepped in at the right time.

What next for Gethin?

Did they do their homework? I have seen McKray a few times and he really comes out swinging.

4 years in and he's still fighting at British level...I don't think he'll reach the heights that were project for him. He's 28 later this year and both 140 & 147 are tough divisions internationally.

The biggest question, not quite aimed at Frankie but still needs asking, what the hell happened to the Olympic class of 08? (Worldwide) Wilder is toiling with bums, Chakhiev has yet to step up, BJS is still at domestic level, Ugas is still only on Espn. DeGale is perhaps ready for Abraham and Glazkov is doing really well but aside from those two (and maybe Price) I can't think of any that have really started like they were expected to. 4 years is a very long time and yet no one seems to have moved onwards and up wards.

I'll just add a caveat to my previous post, Kubrat Pulev is the one man to have bucked that trend. He failed to medal at the Olympics but has been an excellent professional.

The spurs lad McRae? threw some crackers , Keane did he job well, Gethin was unperturbed by Murphys pressure and came on well, Frankie needs to strengthen up a bit IMO he has the skills but could do with a bit more power to his game. Nice finish to the solar plexus though

Were working on strength hurt my shoulder in camp, so all strength work an pads was put to a stand still, did 2 days of sparring in the last 5 weeks with peter mcdonagh,but I'm gonna rest it a week an straight back into my strength work. I'm only gonna get better as not as long breaks gonna stay busy now

After less than four years of turning over after their Olympic efforts, Oscar had beaten Chavez; Vargas' career had pretty much been and done; Mayweather was about to fight Corrales; Ali had beaten Liston; Foreman had beaten Frazier; Lennox held the WBC title; Wlad had beaten Chris Byrd for the WBO title; Biggs had fought for the undisputed heavyweight title (lost); Casamayor had won and defended the WBA title (he was due to fight in the '96 Olympics but defected shortly before, so he doesn't really count but is a similar case to Frankie, in some respects. He had been to a previous Olympics, though).

Just a few examples but it just shows how times have changed.

Gethin did well and is now a very very proud British Champion (said he was gonna sleep in the belt last night). Murphy's punches just bounced off Martin and he was able to walk through them and break Murphy down with his jab and body punches.

Frankie also performed well. Jason was in great condition and Determind to win but the gulf in class was too big. Jason gave a good account of himself though and had the physical advantage in there but Gavins counters and hand speed were too much.

Chris Keane did the business on Shane and became the first boxer to stop him. It's no secret that Shanes training camp for this was less than perfect and he struggled with his weight but I don't think this should take too much of the shine off Chris's performance. I shared a few cans of vimto and a packet of crisps with Shane after and he said he would love a rematch with Chris and he would train properly, although I doubt Chris will grant him the opportunity as he will be eyeing bigger and better things.

All in all a great night's action and a great atmosphere in the black country. Same again tonight anyone........

I thought he looked well, thought he was always going to win it but it was about how he won it. He dominated the fight, and looked vicious when he could smell the end was nigh. I know he's a different league to Welborn but Frankies job was to prove he was a different league. He did that well imo.

Good footwork from Gavin, his ability to sting and rotate out then dive straight back in with a flurry was too much for the game, but crude Welborn. I had FG win every round before the stoppage.

Vassell would be a tough fight, he's massive welter. Built like a cannon ball.

I've heard impressive things about him being a beast in sparring, but having under-rated defence, head movement, and a fast jab and right hand, as well as the good bodypunching. more impressive, the source i heard it from doesn't tend to give out much credit at all.
