Who would come out on top if these two could had met in their respective primes? They are both of a simular size and both quality counter punchers.
Quarry obviously mixed with a better class of fighter than Byrd and had the better punch, but Byrd IMO has the edge in speed and is one tricky customer.
Would Jerry have two much fire and determination for Bryd and slowly grind out a point victory?
Or would Chris Byrds style infuriate Quarry so much forcing him to make too many mistakes and allow Bryd to couterpunch his was to victory.
Could Byrd do to Quarry what Jimmy Ellis did?
I go for Jerry's better work rate, power and sometimes underated skills to take him to a point victory.
Do you agree fight fans?

Quarry would take this slapper to the wood shed and give him the spanking of his life.

IMO Byrd would embarass him. Quarry was tough but that's all that was going for him. There were some truly brilliant heavy's in the 70's but there were also some limited durable types that hindsight make seem better than they were.
Byrd lopsided UD

fornicating hell byrd would get smashed up in this fight.
byrd doesnt have enough power to hurt quarry and quarry is a way better counter puncher than him.
how dare you compare chris byrd to jimmy ellis??!!? (PS one of th emajor reasons ellis beat quarry was the broken back quarry was fighting with)
byrds not going to be letting any frazier/lyle/shavers-type leather fly, quarry like the previous fella said takes the slappers to the cleaners.
maybe by kayo, but if not knockdowns enroute to decision.

I dare I dare
Seriously mate I just asked the question,
Could Bryd do to Jerry what Ellis did?
The only comparisons I would personally make between Ellis and Byrd would be they were small Heavy's (bother former Middleweights) and both clever boxers.

Have you ever seen prime Quarry??? He had great skills and was pretty fast to boot. Quarry was no Ron Stander or Chuck Wepner. Quarry would win an 8-4 decision.

Quarry would murder him. Ellis could punch, Byrd cant.
Quarry by KO.

Quarry licked Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers and Mac Foster when all three could barely find anyone to spar with them let alone fight them for real. If Quarry could hold his own with a smaller, quicker man in Floyd Patterson, he would have done likewise with Byrd.

Quarry had some up and down performances. I could imagine him possibly being outboxed and losing a cuts TKO or decision to Byrd. However, I would favor him to outwork Byrd and win a decision or late stoppage.

Yes and he won two slightly iffy decisions over a faded Floyd Patterson I believe, Quarry did not have great skills from what I've seen of him, though admittedly that's not all that much.
