Just to pick up on what Steve689 said about Jim Neilly's commentary tonight (in terms of mistakes), if MC Mike Goodall is calling the show, wait for him to make a mistake in the announcement.

Is/Was he the guy that annouces the Boxer's surnames twice?

Jim Neilly would of had a busy day as I believe he was doing the commentary for the Ireland-Italy match

Jim Neily did a huge blunder in the Rugby today - he started singing "Ireland's call" and he didn't switch off the mic.

Hardly a sign of being a nutural, but on the whole he is much better at Rugby - even quite good.

Yes, he's excellent at rugby. That's clearly his forte. So why not leave him there? You don't see them switching Eddie Butler around.

Goodall didn't do the Cook or Audley fights, anyone know what the name of the MC was for those?

Goodall did say and from Hounslow, Hounslow's Lee Hodgson!

Don't know if it was Mike Goodall or not but i remember one MC on a BBC bout was introducing for a Southern Area bout and he forgot the ref's name! He said "And our ref in charge is..." shuffled his cards, "The referee Mr. err...." another look at his cards...the ref stepped over and whispered quietly..."Lee Cook" Lol

had some american geezer to make it feel more glamorous.Thats not a famous american MC for sure.

Dont mind Goodhall, makes mistakes, but i like his voice, gets the crowd going. But Mcdonald is my fav MC.

John MacDonald is Mr "Sportfans and Skyfans" - which is now being copied by Audley I have heard him on the radio and he said "Sport fans and BBC Sport Fans".

MacDonald also calls every town/city where the fighter is done as the "Beautiful town/city/area of" ...... He said in boxing monthly that is meant, but surely its more tongue in cheeck.

The best one is if ur watching the boxing with a mate have a bet with him/her that (if it's Ian John Lewis as ref) when the ref gives the final instructions he says 'I AM THE REFEREE' first. I got £50 from some hapless loser, he he.

Lol i have not Boxing mates to watch with, my dad watches but only so he can wait for Spanish football on afterwards! I always say to whoever is with me before Ian Lewis comes on listen to "I am the referee" or Mickey Vann "No naughties with the heads"....it's funny how refs develop snazzy catch phrases like "I'm fair but i'm firm" from Joe Cortez or Mills Lane "Let's get it on".

Yeah Ref catch phrases make me laugh, Richie Davies's 'Behave yourself' as well.

Next time you watch a Steve Smoger fight, wait for a clinch. Everytime he will come in with 'HUH!!! Dont punch, Dont punch'. It's good refereeing and all, but after a while it gets very annoying and hard to ignore. Maybe he could add a bit of variety like saying 'Break clean' or something.

If you watch Forrest-Mosley 1 again, listen out for it. Then again, dont, as It will completely ruin your viewing. I haven't seen that fight for a while, i cant bare it.

Whilst we're not on the subject, which commentator called one of Audleys opponent; "A Dominic of the Negus variety!"

My best ref moment was when Skelton fought Julius Francis and they were hanging on and the ref shouted break but they kept hanging on and started wrestling a listen. The ref screams at the 2 of them to do as he says and the look on Julius Francis' face was very intimidating. U can see it here actually.

That was the unmistakeable Jim Neilly, talking of commentators gaffes i remember during my sadder days on the current scene i posted a thread titled "The things they say", if anyone is any good at retracing old threads then look it up i think we collected some good ones.
