This isn't new news but delighted with Nevin's decision. His style isn't suited for the pro ranks and he will be peaking in 2016. There will still be plenty of time for him to go pro after Rio if he decides he wants a taste for it.

What's the funding like for Olympians over the water? He'll obviously get his wages from Lionhearts but what about from the Irish? If he's got pretty much guaranteed funding for four years, he'd almost be a fool not to reverse his decision, as it's unlikely that he's got the style and attributes to make a fortune as a pro.

The high performance athletes like Nevin and most of the top boxers receive funding from the Irish Sports Council. I'm not sure of exact figures but I remember a few years ago the boxers were receiving anything from €15000-€40000 each annually based on pedigree. Katie Taylor was rumored to be receiving more than €40000 but not sure if there is much truth in that.
