I took a lad to box on a dinner show in Leicester saturday night , was a white collar prizefighter type thing (cash fighter they called it)

Had Frank Bruno do a guest after dinner talk and had a few others making an appearance such as Rendall Munroe and Joe Egan and a memorabillia auction

Was a really well run event in the main and all the tables were sold out , only downside was my lad didnt make it past the quarter final having lost a very close decision to Kevin Concepcion , personally thought he should have got the nod but hey thats boxing .


ive never been to an event like this previously , just wondered how common they are ? do they sell well ? im guessing the tables werent exactly cheap either .

my lad got to the final, i thought was great for spectator but wasnt happy boxers didnt make weight, my lad had to diet to do it then these lads rock up over the weight.also no gloves or wraps checked and way to many people allowed to rome back stage or to the ring. this is wer semi/white coller lets its self down

My boxer was 11 stone 4 , well under the 12 stone limit

Was your lad the one who lost the final you mean ? Tall kid ? if so used his height really well to gain an advantage , maybe not the best of boxers of the lads there but used what he did have in his arsenal , think semi final seemed to take a lot out of him , he took some heavy shots in that one and had to dig deep and outwork the lad to get the win .

Those people roaming near the ring was fighters and their corners etc in the main , was nowhere to go once they had boxed , so would have got in the way of those on the tables in the corner , so maybe they had a bit of an oversight there , should probably have kept 2 of the tables spare for lads that had boxed etc but that would have been 2 tables they couldnt sell , at no doubt a good £500 each if not more .

As for the gloves not being checked , they should probably have provided gloves , that way everyone would have had the same .

no i had strangers (guests) cuming in are dressing room. people off table in shirt and tie tryin to cum in the corner pissed who i had to politly tell to f-off....not good

yea the only man who sparred with mike tyson

If Tyson turns out to be another jimmy saville, I doubt you would never see joe Egan near a boxing event again!

Didnt see that , i agree that shouldnt be happening , especially coming to the corner during the fight ,shouldnt be getting so near the ring , keeping people out of the changing rooms isnt quite so easy as theres so many trainers etc coming in and out that the security probably wouldnt have known who was who i suppose .

Think he was a decent am & I have seen footage of him & he looked a game kid if truth be told.

Egan claims to have beaten Bruce Seldon in the Ams and his pro career was cut short by a car crash.

yea mr d ive looked everywere on the internet to see if any of the footage exists of him sparring with iron mike, theirs not even photos of him sparring with iron mike. did anybody actually hear of this man till he wrote that mug book ?

It seems that anyone who gets mentoned on here gets slated for the sheer sake of it. Joe Egan's a good bloke, so what, he's made the most of knowing Mike Tyson? I had my photo taken with Tyson and in the days that followed I carried on like I'd found out we were brothers. Good luck to Big Joe.

I have met Joe and he was one of the friendlist blokes you could care to meet. Also, surely his amateur achievements are in the record books so it's not like he can exaggerate them.

Here we go again - havin a pop time.
Joe is a great guy. He puts himself out particularly with Charity appearances, and certainly in my case he hasn't charged a bean for his last two. All we did was put him up for the night.
Good on him - mention Tyson all day every day, talk about Sherlock films etc etc. Who cares if he over eggs the pudding every now and then.
Have a pop at the boxing celebs who charge fortunes to turn up when all you want to do is a bit of good for Charity.

Nobody is having a serious pop. It's all tongue in cheek. It's obvious that almost everybody likes Joe, how else would he have been able to remain on the ADS circuit for as long as he has if the reverse were true?
