Just reading on the"Mickey Ward/Fighter thread got me thinking about boxing movies and what fighters life would make a great movie whether it have a happy or sad ending,mines would have to be George Chuvalo,man that fighter got dealt a shit hand,im sure it was 3 kids he lost to drugs(im sure 1 was actually suicide because of drugs)plus his wife killed herself over all the heartache(who wouldnt?) and the way he keeps on going doing charity work and warning others of the dangers,i doubt many people would have the strength to keep going,most people wouldve threw the towel in on life,not George what a legend
And lets not forget what a fighter he was in the ring also,absolute warrior,teak tough and the best chin of all time

Kirkland Laing. 'The Gifted One' by Oliver Jarratt is one of the most enjoyable boxing books I have ever read. Kirkland's life is full of ups and downs. It would make a great movie.

If the film was based on the book it would be about eight hours long. A great book for us lot but a true labour of love. I lent it to a casual who used to enjoy watching Kirk box and it was to much for him.

True, it's not one for the casual fan. I'm sure they can shrink it down and glam it up but that would ruin the story for me.

Tapia would be quality, he actually met his dad didn't he who he never knew before he passed?

The light heavy was James Scott the footage of the fights are on YouTube!!

I think jerry quarry would make a great film he was a mickey ward of the 60-70's toe to toe with Frazier twice 1 being fight of the year, Ali twice, etc had a wallop of. Left hook, great Orkney rate etc and his battles in the gyms was wars to!

It's a pity that the Benny Lynch film never got made. I remember that Robert Carlyle wanted to do one but I think the Lynch family weren't happy about it.

Remember my film on Howard Winstone was released last year starring the great Erik Morales as Saldivar and featuring 12 other world champions.
