Is he still involved in boxing in any capacity ? Can anyone here post a photo of Sparrow from his fighting days?

Seems nothing is known of him since he retired in the 80s.

"Nubbins"? I remember the coins thrown into the ring being called a "shower." I have seen fighters entering the ring for the next fight after a shower holding their towels across their faces to avoid being hit.

"Nobbins" is the term they used in Britain for what we call a "shower." I think coins being thrown into the ring after a fight mainly happened in boxing booths over there as opposed to stadiums in Australia.

showers were a common thing in a lot of stadiums across Australia in the 40,s and 50,s ,probably , Newcastle House of Stoush was the place to have a job as a sweeper, coins would hit the canvas and fly into the ringside area,i remember Alfie Sands and George Kapeen putting on one of the best fights ever seen in the old Stadium, i think they reckon there was more in the shower than in their fight purse, even after the cornermen pocketed some of it, they banned it because of the injuries that were caused, nowadays the lawyers would have a picnic, i can remember it happened a few times at Marrickville RSL, late 60,s, all the best
