Bad boy Roach won't be making the trip again

Alex Arthur's plans to have American trainer Freddie Roach in his corner have been dashed yet again.
Roach was scheduled to appear in Arthur's corner for this Saturday's fight with Ugandan Michael Kizza at Meadowbank.
However, Roach will not be making the trip due to other obligations.
Arthur was solidly beaten by Michael Gomez last october without Roach in his corner and was determined to have Roach with him this time.
"Obviously I'm a little disappointed," said Arthur. "Freddie offered me one of his assistants for Saturday but for me it has to be Freddie or nobody. Freddie is appearing in court on an alleged assault charge and can't come over."
Roach's place will be taken by Dean Powell who will join Ownie Smith and Terry McCormack.

No, Roach is a good guy. If he assaulted someone, the guy deserved it.

Arthur needs to get himself a trainer who is going to be with him at his fights. Especially at this stage of his career.

I think what Arthur needs most of all, is a trainer who can teach him how to slip a shot.

Manny Steward will do it as a one-off. He'll even share the corner duties with another trainer if the money is right (think of him and Oscar Suarez).
Steve Bunce will do it if the TV cameras are there and there's a heavyweight on the bill.
Tony Oakey's currently kicking his heels. Why not him? He knows what it's like to soak up punishment with a smile.

Why not have the corner as Arv Mittoo, John Paul Ryan and, over from the States, Eric Crumble? They are due a win! :)

Exactly WHY would Roach go over and train Average Alex Arthur?
He can be associated with boxers like James Toney, Pac Man...even Marlon "Magic Man" Starling ....and now... Alex Arthur....
Which name jumps out at you there as not quite being in the same tier as the rest. And Arthur wonders why Freddie doesn't fly over?

I agree I finds Arthur an arrogant, over hyped jumped up individual, who rates his own opinion above his talent and application, but hey its easy to knock a guy who has just got the shit beat out of him by a a decent domestic pro. but still those are my thoughts.

I cannot think of a boxer I dislike more than Alex Arthur.
As extreme as it was, I still find a strange pleasure in watching Gomez vs Arthur again on video...
His arrogance is unbelievable.
