but does he have any plans to turn pro?

From what I have seen he could potentially go somewhere in the pro game if promoted well.

pretty sure he said he wanted to compete in the brazil olympics .

Hes only young , no real rush to turn pro right now .

He can continue to learn as an amateur , where a loss wouldnt be a big deal like it would in the pro's

I guess you're right, he is only 23 now so after Rio he will be 26/27.

I half expected him to follow the same route as Anthony Ogogo.

From what he has said I think he wants to the worlds one more time and try to win gold there, then go pro.

I think it's a good idea. Gives him a bit more time to sharpen up. Waiting for Rio could backfire.

Should have signed with a promoter right after the games. His stock will never be that high again.

'Mr A Harrison' of London, England, understood this and got himself a cool million quid out of it.

Good point, but I dont think Joshua should use Harrison as an example of how to manoeuvre his career.

I don't think he's good enough to turn pro yet. I can't see him being on the level of Price

Yes but Joshua has already stated that he is not in boxing for the money (having already turned down the chance to go pro for a large fee) and the prospect of being the laughing stock of the boxing community is certainly not something to aspire to in my opinion.

Yes but Joshua has already stated that he is not in boxing for the money (having already turned down the chance to go pro for a large fee) and the prospect of being the laughing stock of the boxing community is certainly not something to aspire to in my opinion.

I think he is a talent and am looking forward to seeing how he does when he turns professional and what he makes out of his career.

One of the reasons Joshua won't get the money Audley got (from anyone, Yanks included) is because Audley f**ked it up so badly. That type of dough is just not on the table anymore.

He gets very well looked after at the moment and despite his Olympic win is still very raw; good move to keep going until after Rio, I think.

4 years is a long time to wait for. He could fail to qualify, get injured, burned out or banged up for selling drugs (again...) in that time.

with his olympic funding etc he will be getting more than most domestic heavyweights earn anyway .

thats without any WBS income etc .


I agree its naive to think hes not wanting money , of course he is , its human nature to want more , but i think hes weighing it up and realising that yes he could go pro now and go on to have a descent enough career but maybe wants to hone his skills a bit more first to have a better career , and the money hes already on will mean hes under no pressure to rush into the pros before he believes the timing is right .

Aye, that's certainly true...always a risk.

I like the cut of Joshua's jib, although I do feel he looked better in the amateur championships than the Olympics, not sure if anyone will agree on that.

Yep - I thought he lost his first bout in the Olympics.

if no ones offered anything decent its no risk staying Am till after Brazil... cause he isnt losing anything

The problem is even though he's got a gold medal round his neck, he's not gonna be able to live up to that hype at the moment, if ever. Anyone with decent eyesight could see that he didn't even win his first round fight at the Olympics. He needs to develop more, but how long will it take?

As for him not reaching Price's level. He has surpassed anything Price did as an am, in half the time and at a younger age too. Cammarelle bounced Pricey all over the canvas in a one sided beating. Joshua has beaten Roberto twice now and Joshua is still relatively new to the sport.

He has a lot of potential.

I thought he fought within himself in the summer. Maybe the pressure and expectation that comes with a home games had an affect? Lets see how he goes in the worlds. I want to see him back in with Savon. I think he can stop the Cuban if he is on form.

Didn't think Joshua looked that good personally.

I've got nothing against the lad he has only been boxing 4 years. But the comparisons to Lennox Lewis are just silly

I've been under the impression in TV interviews thats he is really keen on the World Championships this year at least. I reckon he'll turn over after that especially if he wins. Probably wants to settle the score from 2011 in Azerbaijan
