I wouldn't be surprised if Hearn signs him up, I seen recently that he is planning some big signings in March.

Is Gavin vs Lynes likely to be next? I think it would be a good defence of the title for Gavin.

First off, wanting to box better oppponents is a good thing. Frankie didn't mention Welborn after the Witter fight.

Secondly, there were many posts suggesting Witter would be a step too far, when Frankie beat him fair and square most of those posters didn't give the appropriate credit. I'd counter your am world champ argument by saying while its no guarantee of success, it doesnt mean he can't achieve his pro dreams either.

Besides, unparrelled amatuer success aside, he is the undefeated British champ in the pro's. Quite a few didn't think he'd get to that level in the pro's, so like you I'll wait and see, but unlike you I think he'll do just fine

I feel a bit sorry for a lot of boxers in the UK at the moment. The TV money just isn't there so it seems to be becoming harder to make decent fights, for certain promoters anyways!

It's starting to look like Hearn is becoming the only real option for boxers who want to stay fairly mainstream and get a few decent fights a year.

If Gavin had behaved differently he'd be further advanced by now. He'd have certainly had more fights.

Not necessarily. Hennessy on terrestrial is another option. The best option for becoming known outside boxing for now.

Yep, he has brought a lot of stuff onto himself with his own immaturity and not knuckling down to the job. Hopefully that time is over and he can go on to achieve his potential.

My own immaturity was personal problems which I'm not going into again I'm good now an training hard an waiting on a fight to see what happens there was one made against an unbeaten opponent but seems to off fell through for no reason

I think I saw that David Barnes next fight is an eliminator.

Can a fight with denton vassell not be made?

Hearn can't afford too many bill toppers. Gavin has to be patient & his time will come. The fact he has moved up a division has cost him time in establishing himself. Vassel would be a great fight for fans but if it don't make money or progression I can't see it being made.
Gavin aint a big welter & you look at how huge broner is at lightweight & khan @ l. Welter it shows you the top level is far away from frankie & he needs more time to grow into the division

lynes lost to witter...vassell or hatton would be better matches

They would be better, but Lynes would be a much better defence than Welborn was.

Too many folk on here give boxers a hard time for "not living the life" / "missing opportunities" / etc etc based on "knowledge" that's mostly just hearsay, supposition or idle/malicious speculation.
I've no idea what Gavin's personal issues were but it seems clear he has moved on and is back in the mix with a realistic chance of going to European level at least. It also seems perfectly legitimate to be frustrated by lack of opportunities.

not difficult...welborn was not in the top 13..i don't understand how the board approved it when it was a glorified midlands area fight....there's better fights out there for gavin than lynes

A former world amateur champion who has been a pro for 4 years.

This public row will only delay further fights (history shows that FW doesn't like such dissent from his subjects).

IMO he needs to take a couple of chances this year - eg. if he can't beat Vassell then talking about world titles is a waste of time.

Why does every "certain promoters" fighter's career stall?

Out of all the olympians who turned pro, I'm expecting Frankie to be the biggest name.
But needs to be fighting often. Which I am sure he and everyone knows. :)

As far as defending the British title goes: Lynes is the third best opponent after Hatton and Vassell.

30-year old Froch fought for a title in his 23rd fight and 26-year old Kell Brook is fighting for one in his 30th fight.

If you look at that trend, Frankie has had 15 fights in 4 years, so it would likely be 2014 he could get an opportunity. Frankie would be around 30 years old, like Froch.

2013 is all about European and fringe world class, if he can win clearly and gain the required experience, then if he can secure a high ranking he has to see what opportunity arises.

But the domestic class like Welborn, should be left behind in 2012 unless the Lonsdale is for keeps (say a commonwealth fight).

I know Frankie will read this, but I'd love for you to get down to 140lb - there are some big fights there and you'd be more physically matched.

Mosley aside, there are not many lightweights who have moved up and operated at 147 and been successful. I just remember Corrales fighting a genuine career welter like Clottey and getting mullered. There are some recent freaks at 147 like Margarito, Paul Williams (before his accident), Sergio Martinez - and Saul Alvarez until 2010 all started at welter.

Fishy fighters like Pac and Marquez have stood on the scales utterly ripped at a weigh class far above their natural ones - so make of that what you like too.

I just think that 130-140 there is not much between them, but there seems to be a big leap in size at the 147 mark and above. Especially stateside for some fishy reason.
