"Mayweather deteriorated in jail"

Every time I see a reference to Mayweather's jail time, people talk about how he would have physically deteriorated. Now, I don't know about jail time, but my understanding is that he was probably working out a lot, and keeping in shape. I may be wrong but I'm guessing he facilities were pretty comfortable and he wouldn't exactly have been in the hole.

Can someone explain what about his short jail time would have damaged him so much?

Apparently, according to a statement released by a lawyer whilst inside and trying to get his sentence cut - he was isolated in his cell 23 hours a day, and was starved of the calories neccessary to maintain his physique, thus lost some muscle mass.

Not sure if it's entirely true on the basis he had an agenda (to get out and serve the remainder under house arrest) - but he already looked to have slowed a little against Cotto, and being in jail surely must add a little mileage physically, if not mentally.

The U.S.A. is a backwards joke nation. They are not a truly civilized nation like Britain is.

They treat their prisoners like crap. I hope Mayweather recovers from his barbaric treatment as quickly as possible.

I don't think people should be treated like that.

I heard he had a bad nights sleep a week last Wednesday, that must have caused some deterioration

Most likely he was in his cell for 23 hours a day and got let out for 1 hour open air time shower and phone call he didn't do long so I don't think it hurt him physically if anything It could have done him some good.......Mentally I think it hurt him all that time to himself just thinking that can fu*k your head up and not having his entourage around him 24/7 licking his ass and hyping him up.

Mayweather turns 36 on Sunday. Deterioration has been in the post for a while now, regardless of his accommodation.

The average prisoner in the US has a life expectancy over ten years less than the remainder of society - deaths by violence barely make a dent in this difference. In short, prison is not good for your health.
Could well be the fact that the majority of prisoners are from the poorer sectors of society, who tend to have a much lower life expectency anyway. Poor diet, alchohol, drug dependency (a huge factor in the US prison population is drug abuse), all have an impact of overall life expectency, - all of these factors have a higher prevelence in lower eschelons of society. Prison per se is not neccessarily a huge factor in this at all - you cannot just equate a direct correlation.

Mayweather will have been just fine in prison, I don't really buy any of this. He is slowing down because he is in his mid 30's, that is perfectly usual.

Listen he did a few weeks in jail. His body hasn't deteriorated. If he goes on holiday for 3 weeks, eats unhalthy food and drinks a bit cos he's on holiday does he crumble and die? No. So 3 weeks or whatever is jail with a little less food is not going to affect his body, especially seeing as he left jail months ago. I'm sure he's fine... stop crying

If he retired tomorrow I couldn't care less.

He is in it purely for fame and money - and wont have a single meaningful fight again.
