If Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir Klistchko decided to retire together at that same time, 5 world titles would become available. Well I say 5 but some people don't value the IBO version whilst I'm not 100% sure if Povetkin would be promoted to WBA Super Champ. Anway if 5 titles suddenly became vacant, we'd need 10 contenders to fight for the belts. Who do you think would be the 10 fighters would be? I'm going for, in no particular order:

1. Alexander Povetkin
2. Tyson Fury
3. David Price
4. Johnathon Banks
5. Deontay Wilder
6. Kubrat Pulev
7. Tomasz Adamek
8. Robert Helenius
9. Odlanier Solis
10. Marko Huck

Whilst some of these guys might not be ranked in deserving positions to fight for a world title, I'm taking into account the influence promoters also have to push their fighters into elevated positions. I'm not counting David Haye as he only wants to fight a Klitschko.

I would agree with that 10 at this moment in time,there prob the best of the bunch..

Well, first off let's forget the IBO, yes they have some good champions and they do some good things (i.e. rankings system) but it's not a major world title.

WBA would not be free. Povetkin would not become Super Champion, but without Wladimir above him he would become the top dog within the organisation, in effect getting promoted to the main WBA champion.

Your list contains most of the right names, however I would remove Odlanier Solis and Marco Huck. Solis has had a shot and failed miserably, and since then has fought once in 2 years, coming in grossly out of shape against a dud opponent. Huck, since the Povetkin fight, has gone back down to cruiserweight (and been unconvincing) so I can't consider him a legitimate heavyweight contender at this point.

As there'd only be 3 belts (that mattered) on the line, my 6 top contenders would be:

1. Kubrat Pulev
2. Tomasz Adamek
3. Robert Helenius
4. Tyson Fury
5. David Price
6. Johnathon Banks

Not sure about Huck at HW and not sure Helenius deserves a place in the top 10. Haye I think would beat Fury and if belts became available I am sure Haye would want to be in there.

Why do these boxing hardcores insist on recognising the WBO and whatever this new fifth belt is as 'authentic'?

I assume its politically motivated, as recognising these belts invariably means one of your favourite - probably local - fighters really was a 'genuine' world champion with multiple credible 'world title defences'.

I suppose it comes down to how old you are, and what era of boxing you grew up watching. There will be members here that will probably struggle to accept the IBF, IBO and WBO as genuine world titles where as younger fans of the sport have been brought up with a steady stream of WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and IBO title fights. New fans of the sport are growing up in an era where interim titles, silver titles and international titles are the norm. New fans who don't know their boxing history yet must think there are about 200 world champions at the moment. There seems to be some kind of world title up for grabs at most events these days :(

It's a very good point Chad. I'm sure many new fans don't know and don't care about its sordid history. Its just another belt and someone they like has it.
