What's Next For Price?

Fury ain't gonna happen and Frank's not going to put him in with Helenius, Pulev etc.

Does he really want a Thompson rematch?

I think Price would beat Chisora and I think it's a good fight for him.

Defend the British title against Chisora, Rogan or Towers.

Probably some Middle Aged journeyman

He should've stepped it up ages ago anyways. He's 29 and that should've been his 24th fight, not his 16th

The Chisora that turned up against Helenius that won and that took Klit the distance would indeed be a good fight and good move for Price I guess

I don't think he would.

Price would probably be better off defending his British title and making money on the back of it but he is always going to be a KO risk when he steps up, he would get KO'd off the likes of Pulev and Helenius
so the EBU is a risky route. Then again - Audley got to a WBA title so anything can happen.

Thompson rematch would actually make sense for me, the guy wasn't in shape and i couldn't see him being in much better shape the next time.
price now looks like he's a chinny boxer, so you may as well get him to sell out a venue and go for revenge, if Price wins then its all back on as before , if he loses then there's always the British and Euro titles to go for.

It's not back to before Ian. Tonight means that Price has punch resistence issues and they won't go away if he wins a rematch.

I think "bollocks" to the slow domestic rebuilding process.

Get Thompson over again immediate rematch stylee. Or even go across the pond to fight him on some Friday Night Fights affair in a leisure centre in Buttfuck Maryland in front of fifty people.

Get the win, wipe this from people's minds, cancel out the negatives.

He's got the connections, he's got the media attention, he's got a bit of a fanbase so it seems. The boy needs to do it.

If he can do it, that is. But it's not like Seth Mitchell getting pranged by Johnathon Banks. I know Banks is a cruiserweight but fornicate me he didn't get one-shotted like that & Banks has always been able to do nothing but hit with the right hand. Thompson couldn't even do that to Owen fuckin' Beck.

Owen Beck, FFS.

Price was far, far too upright & open to the right hand (that fvcking left he waves about, I love Tommy Hearns but a generation watched him & went "OH I can do that" when what they meant was "I too can be caught by big right hands over my low-held left"). Terrible really.

But if he goes & flattens Thompson, his top-level ambitions are still alive. Ish.

Just seen this, nice one mate, exactly my thoughts.

:TU:

But I'll be shocked if his team do the do & get him back in there.

No, but Price could box better. That is the key for Prices return, boxing to a game plan. He should have boxed long, and worn the older, more out of shape guy down.

I wonder what sort of cash is Frank prepared to continue to invest in Price now that his stock has dropped significantly. I doubt guys like Thompson come cheap. Price is really back to square one. Does he go back to British level or does he take another risk and fight a fringe contender? Chisora is probably in between and is an obvious opponent.

Maybe I'm looking too much into it but did anyone else think much of Price losing the eye contact with Thompson in the staredown during the ref's instructions? I think the veteran got in his head a bit.

Jab is also the key, Price doesn't throw one, just plays around with it

He relies too much on his one punch power and has failed to develop a decent jab to set him up. With his reach and power he could break opponents hearts with a nice stiff jab. This defeat could be the best thing that could have happened to him. Time will tell.

he needs to develop a robust defence a la Wlad. He should be bullying people around the ring and not busting around on the inside against a range of bums

I feel awful for Price, that must have been horrendous in front of a home crowd like that. Maybe they can bring someone in to teach him how best to fight with what he has, like Steward did for Wlad/Lennox.

I've never heard from a great boxer that didn't have a jab, at some point they all used it to win a fight

The pawing definitely has to go.

I keep looking for positives. Like maybe Price will never get caught with that kind of shot again. Maybe he will tighten up his defence sufficiently, use his range fully from now on.

Seen the footage on Sky News now though, and perforated eardrum or not it's hard to imagine any top heavyweight swaying around like that from a punch that really wasn't launched as a fight-ending blow.

Price should stay well away from an Audley rematch.
