Stourbridge's Steven Pearce has landed a late notice shot at the vacant Midlands welterweight title after Walsall's Joel Ryan pulled out through illness. Ryan was due to co-challenge with Derby's Luke Gallear at Burton Town Hall on Friday night but has a chest infection, which has left him "bed-ridden."

Pearce will take Ryan's place, as he was already preparing to box eight days later on the 70th anniversary show at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

'Fierce Pearce,' 28, competed in the welterweight Prizefighter at the Civic last month and had been lined up to challenge the winner of Ryan-Gallear.

Id like to see someone like Nathan McIntosh get in with these sorts of guys if he can keep clear of injuries , theyre not a high level but still a step up from the previous level of opponents Nathan has faced .

just looked him up how come his only had one fight since 2009

Career threatening hand injury , hes only just returned to the gym after having it operated on and then breaking his leg straight after but not intending to fight until after christmas as he wants to give it a big go afterwards to make up for lost time , really sound lad .

Pearce points. Pearce can make this as easy or hard as he wants. If he uses his noggin and keeps it at length he should get a shut out win against a very game Luke.

pearce likes to come forward to much so i can see it being a toe to toe war which will b great to watch. if pearce is in great shape i fancy a late stoppage win for him i know his had some real good sparring in the build up to the 9th march show he was surpose to b on.

Well if that's what he decides to do that's great for us. I'd still prefer to see Steve use his boxing ability and Luke is an ideal foil to allow him to do this. No disrespet to Luke (who happens to be a really nice guy) but he only fights one way and is pretty easy to work out. If Steve takes his time, breaks him down a late stoppage could certainly be on the cards too.

gutted i cant go been to all his fights ( a good mate and ex gym mate for my cuz who r best mates) but got tickets for the wolves friday so cant go. #teampearce #teamcooper
