Unbeaten Scottish light-welterweight Gary Young, who takes part in the chief supportting fight to Alex Arthur-Michael Kizza, is unhappy about the choice of opponent, Stourport's Ernie Smith.
"Over 500 of the crowd at Meadowbank will be there to cheer me on," said Young, "but my coach Peter Harrison and I wanted a stiffer test to entertain them than Smith.

It' snice to hear (unless your Ernie Smith of Stourport)

Smith rarely gets a win but I'd say he was a pretty entertaining journeyman, doesn't mind getting stuck in.

He is a real strong man and is a physical match for anyone in that weight class, if not in terms of skill.

Earnie was up before magistrates a few years ago, I seem to remember, for attempting to take part in a bare knuckle match.

He may be no Ray Leonard, but he is a hard, proud fighter.

I'd like to see Gary Young against a slick, good (not great ) boxer who focuses on catching him with the counter left-hook. He does look quite impressive blasting away journeymen on sky, but I felt I didn't get the full picture on him until I saw him live. They should be starting to introduce him to boxer-movers now, in my opinion.

Hope Gary Young isn't too over confident for this fight and gets caught by a silly punch.

It's only the last couple of fights that I have been impressed with Young, I suppose it's nice to see a boxer wanting more of a challenge.

Just had a re-think (my memory is terrible) and it was in fact ex-pro Ernie Loveridge who was involved in the bare knuckle shenanigans and not Smith. Apologies.

Earnie Loveridge now there's a name from the past, I saw him box live at times a few times. I wonder what he's up to these days?
