Alex Arthur wouldn't win a European title in my opinion. He'll get a shot at WBU champ Michael Gomez (I'm assuming Gomez will get past Eric Odumasi next week) in the Autumn of this year (Warren has promised Arthur a crack within six months) and, win or lose, the WBU will remain the limit of his capabilties.

I thought I heard he dropped the nickname amazing following the gomez defeat!

for me his skills are limited and he is very arrogant i see others have the same opion.

I was being serious when I said this.. I honestly thought I heard or read it somewhere.

Boxing Monthly said he had dropped the nickname but it was still used at last night's fight.

Sadly, he may have to change it to "Average"

I wouldn't read too much into it it is after all just a nickname, Boxing is sometimes about bluffing and some people were fooled into thinking Arthur may be the real thing, i was one of those people especially after Arthur dealt with Willie Limond. I agree with Steve Bunce when he constantly reiterates the importance of the European title, holding it proves more than any WBU, WBF, IBC title could. Arthur got found out by Gomez plain and simple, will he ever recover? No, i don't think so.

How could someone be considered 'Amazing' when they get caught with so many text book left hooks like he did against Gomez?

Arthur is an average fighter who has been built up to be far better than he is....give him credit for going to the US to spar but a comeback opponent like Kizza is a joke.

He definately doesnt have the talent or desire to become a legitimate champion.

I would relish it. Arthur is tailor made for a pressure fighter; it is true that he has to rely on his boxing skills for the duration of the contest, but at the same time, he needs to be physically strong in order to keep such a fighter at bay. As was shown by Gomez, he doesn't have this strength. Gomez walked right through him and exposed him big style.

Arthur generates a lot of dislike on the forums for some reason. He's confident and not afraid to speak his mind, but that's no bad thing for a boxer is it?
At least he went out on his shield in the Gomez fight. Not many boxers would take that sort of beating and keep getting up. The man's got a huge heart, give him that much.

I still think he can come back a better fighter, as long as they don't match him with any more bantamweights that is..

No one is denying that he took a beating, and showed heart, but the excuses he has come out with since then have been plain ridiculous. He's done his best to undermine Gomez, and I aint surprised it has pissed a lot of people off.

I'm sure he can come back, and it was nice to see him being a lot more humble in his post fight interview. The fight on saturday was still a joke though.

Very true...Gomez didnt give Arthur time to think, he was in his face from start to finish and like you said Arthur wasnt strong enough to hold off the bulldozing Gomez.

Yeah prior to the Gomez fight Arthur had dispatched some worthy opponents, not great ones but some reasonable opposition all the same and i think that after the Gomez fight we forgot about that and only saw his flaws, the fight with Kizza was a joke though. Poor matchmaking, what was the title on the line?

well said think people were carried away with him and harrison being up and comers. both being exposed pretty shortly after such comparisons were made.

IBF Intercontinental Super Featherweight title...I fought for it in '96
