Here is an interesting and quite sad piece that was in today's Hull Daily Mail about the former Featherweight World Champion.

F**k. That is so sad to see him in that condition. Such a brave fighter in his day and you can sense from his quotes how badly he's hurting from not being able to be involved in boxing - it clearly gave his whole life meaning.

Well done to the 'Blue glove Foundation' for putting the spotlight back on Paul's plight.

ingle vs jones was a great fight. junior was allowed to go on for far too long in that one.
ingle wasnt the most talented but he made up for it with workrate and heart.
maybe his corner should have stopped it earlier in the botile fight

A contrian view which I'm sure will provoke vilification
Why should anyone pay to help him? He's fat because he's eaten too much. At the time of his brain trauma Paul had great medical care.
Thereafter why should the state pay for anything?

It was depressing reading that and I really hope he can find something to fill the gap and fill the time. Putting all that weight wont of helped how he feels about himself either ....... maybe everyone on the forum could chip in a bit of money aswell if they can?

Paul was my hero when I was growing up & great to be with in the gym passing on knowledge I skipped school to go to hull & train with him or just watch & learn he was a hard trainer & excellent technician good boxing brain. Was at Scarborough a.b.c trained by Tommy Johnson & won multi national titles represented England in the 92 Barcelona olympics before winning every thing possible as a pro the old fashion way Lonsdale outright comanwealth european IBF,IBO world titles. And he didnt acheive all that by having just workrate & heart!!

Why try provoke on a forum if you knew anything about Pauls injury you would'nt even sit behind your computer making pathetic comments about his weight. He has had a serious brain injury & the recovery he has made shows how much of a fighter he is. anybody who knows Paul will tell you he has is witts about him still the same great guy learning to live with his condition. so as I good friend I dont appreciate your shitty comment regarding his weight.

It's a real shame. I certainly remember all his fights. He was the first to show that Prince Naseem could be hit. I also recall during his brief reign he seemed to be already going off the rails to some degree and getting very overweight. Rapid weight loss and dehydration of his brain I'm sure would have contributed to his injury. I hope it comes together for him.

A sad read indeed. I hope he can get his life back on track and find an avenue into the sport that will give him some satisfaction again.

X2 well said Boxing Farmer
What a stupid moronic statement I myself have had a similar injury to Paul which wasnt Boxing Related but I have also been involved in the Fund Raising for Jonjo Finnegan who also suffered a serious injury and indeed I have spoken to Jonjo on many occasions during his recovery so I for one find your comments very distasteful

I'm neither a prick nor an Internet warrior, and I did specifically state that perhaps my comment would be vilified, but the personal abuse is unnecessary. I was not trying to be distasteful, merely commenting on the extent to which we are responsible for our own actions.
I wish Paul nothing but the best, a great fighter. He himself states that he needs to lose some weight, I hope, for the sake of his long term health he is successful in this.

Awful comment on a thread that is designed to show just how difficult Paul is finding things after suffering a life threatening injury.
Anyway, the story is a very sad one and a stark reminder of the dangers of boxing and the risks fighters put themselves through every time they step into the ring. Almost brings a tear to the eye. I hope Paul gets himself to a position where he feels at peace with himself. There must be some sort of role in boxing for a man of this level of experience even if not in a media or training capacity. Ver sad to read.

Yes I certainly found it very distasteful but this is a forum and everybody is entitled to their opinion but it was insensitive and disrespectful to every body who has suffered a similar injury or a stroke It is something I wouldnt wish on anybody

Yeah but its very easy saying we're responsible for own actions but in a lot of cases free will doesnt exist! Also how can you compare say a lazy, able person with a guy who has suffered a serious brain injury which in turn affects his mobility and so forth and also psychologically is going to have a huge impact on you not being able to do what you love. Thats why people end up comfort eating. I just think it was a bit of an ignorant and not a very well thought out statement mate.

agree with this. I don't know to what extent Paul's injury makes it more of a challenge to keep in shape. I don't know how long he was in a bad way for but I suspect it was a good while. Not to mention the psychological impact on him and his social life, in fact his life full stop. It's an ignorant comment to say he's big because he ate too much, it serves no useful purpose to say apart from upset a few of his mates/ family maybe. He's done 10 lifetime's worth of training already he's entitled to be overweight and not get written off for it imo. Keep moving forward Paul

Sad story and unfortunately one which many other boxers could tell but don't have the same name or spotlight as Paul.
The comment regarding his weight and questioning why he should be helped was unnecessary. Ingle gave us fans many a good nights entertainment and almost paid the ultimate price. He had everything going for him and in the space of an hour it was ripped away from him. He deserves a little something back if it helps him along the way.
