I've just has the following e-mail from allegedly.

"George Groves to feature on undercard!

Saturday night will also see the return of George Groves to allegedly screens! He fights Syrian born Baker Barakat in an 8 round contest, which, assuming he wins could be the springboard to challenge the winner of Abraham vs Stieglitz later in the year. Barakat won't make it easy for Groves, however - his 54 fight experience (37-13-4) will mean he'll be used to a number of different styles and fighters. Tune in early to catch the Hammersmith star try and make it 18 wins out of 18."

Just about to post this as I got the email too.

Groves won’t be on that undercard, will he???

And if he isn’t then please don’t blame him.

Given that Groves has had 17 fights, with number 17 having been on Sky under matchroom... then that proves that this section of the allegedly email, acknowledges that and was written afterwards: 'Tune in early to catch the Hammersmith star try and make it 18 wins out of 18'. So unlikely to be a mistake.

Hearns has confirmed it in a series of tweets by top, "proper" journo Kevin Mitchell.

Basically says that Groves needs miles on his clock and this bill is good timing in support of the Froch undercard and a Sept headline. The suggestion that Matchroom and Warren are working together for the sake of the boxers is both refreshing and encouraging for the future of all involved.

Doubt they really are working together, I imagine its through Booth.

It's more like Hearn working with Sauerland. Froch-Kessler is a co-promotion and it suggests that they are looking at Groves facing the Abraham-Stieglitz winner by the end of the year.
Good move by Booth, though, as the guy Groves faced at Wembley was hopeless

OK, working together was maybe a step too far, but not actively seeking to avoid the appearance of working together at the cost of the fighter is a crawl in the right direction.

Na he meant Groves being on an undercard of the allegedly bill.

I think they are exposing Groves to the German audience as he is mandatory. So, the German fans can see him fight before he takes on the winner.

I also have a strange feeling that we may see Groves fight the winner on the Froch undercard.

I think that would be too soon for the Abraham/stieglitz winner.

Good for Groves that he is being kept busy. With the Froch-undercard date as well, that will be 3 fights in the first five months of 2013 compared to two in the whole of 2012.

Not many names on the Bakarat record...although does have a win over Khoren Gevor. Also, as noted by others a chance to get some exposure to the German audience.

I agree it is a nice little keep busy fight to help keep the rust of should he get through it relatively unscathed he will be then a supporting act for Froch v Kessler in a 12 rounder, does anyone know yet if that will be a Commonwealth title defence or a fight for a sanctioning body's (most likely WBO's) intercontiential/international/silver/diamond (delete as appriopiate) belts to help boost his rankings.

abraham rematch with stieglitz is this weekend, right? why wouldn't may 25 be enough time
to match groves with abraham on K-F undercard, or would that just break the budget?
if matchroom was really trying to work with sauerland, then why not set groves up with
weber, who lost to stieglitz about a year ago? or britsch who already had an intercontinental title?
both hearn and sauerland already mentioned they wanted to match brian rose with ahmad kaddour
on the K-F card if rose comes out ok against alcine 5 weeks before K-F. nisse sauerland and eddie hearn could
load this undercard with good fighters between the two of them. maybe it just costs too much?

The reason it would be too soon is it there would basically only be two months between fights and thats not even including a rest period. Fighters at the top level need more time than that between fights.

NO WAY the winner of Abraham-Stieglitz fights Groves on the undercard of Froch-Kessler. It's only 8 weeks away. I would love for it to happen though.
