I noticed Yuri Romanov, who you may remember fought a number of British fighters including Bobby Vanzie, Steve Murray, Graham Earl and John Thaxton is back in action after having only 1 fight in the last 5 years. It seems he lost a close decision in the states in January and takes on an unbeaten prospect in Russia in May. I hope he can get back on track as at his best he would be a very welcome addition to the pretty shallow world lightweight scene.

Romanov looked like he was going places at one stage and then completely disappeared off the radar. According to his ex-manager, he decided to hop on a plane unannounced to the States in 2008 but he couldn't fight because of visa issues and the manager didn't hear from him again.

Good to see him back. Amazing that he is still only 30.

Great fighter but can't see him comin back as the fighter he once was and he was good strong none stop fighter

Wow 30 I was gonna say he must be old now seems ages when I watched him beat All our great fighters up he had heavy hands and great engine

I wondered if he'd be back. He must be one of those talented guys who dislikes boxing. Gets a few quid and disappears for 2 years.

it was a wasted talent when you see how many fights hes had over the last few years, something must have been up for him not to fight .

Can't believe he's only 30 still plenty of time for him to do something with his career. Good luck to him.

Looks like he lost the first comeback bout in Jan to some American I've never heard of. Might already be too late.

I was at York Hall when he shredded Thaxton - hit very very hard and looked world class. I was lingering around ringside after and he walked past me - little fellow but all muscle, built like a tank.

It seemed like his time might finally be coming, then he vanished for five years. And now he's come back and lost!

Huge waste of talent.

I tried tracking him down 3-4 years ago and his then-manager Philipe Fondu told me he'd basically gone off the radar - and that he'd bagged an IBF eliminator or something but he wasn't fussed and had vanished off the scene.

I remember he got jobbed by Graham Earl at York Hall, the first time i saw him. And the Thaxton fight saw him looking more like a man, a little boulder of a fighter with all the tools.

I bet he ain't sparred a round for years and then hopped into that fight. He will be very stale indeed now.

Was he not due to fight Joan Guzman in that ibf eliminator? I do remember that falling through.

I dont think that particular fight was Guzman , but you might be right and that Guzman was somewhere mentioned.

I'm guessing laziness. When he got to the States and couldn't get the required working visa I'd say he just lived it up for a few years.

He still has age on his side so no reason why he can't still carve out something decent if his head is in the game.

The Earl fight was a belter. He had Earl out on his feet a number of times but Earl kept the punches coming. From memory it wasn't a robbery; I think it was more Romanov took too long to get going and was outworked in the early rounds. I had that fight on tape; if I can find it I'll try to convert it and upload it this weekend.

Yeah a massive shame. I was at the Guild Hall in Preston when he floored Bobby Vanzie 5 times. He was only 20 at the time and it was his 13th bout. Massive shame he wasted some of his best years but if he manages to win his next fight he might just get back in the picture. His opponent is ranked #5 with the WBA.

I know Troyanovsky's record is pretty slim in terms of numbers (14-0, 11) but the guy is a genuine fringe contender with wins over Matt Zegan (TKO3) and Walter Estrada (TKO2). In all honesty this is as close to a crossroads fight as you can get. "Eddy" is 32 himself and ranked #5 (WBA) and a win here would likely be the final bout before he got an eliminator type of fight.

I really like both guys and this is a fight worth watching, should be a little bit special as both are tough, both hit hard both have a point to prove and whilst "Eddy" is a bit clumsy he looks rock hard.

what a shame he disappeared.

wanted him to fight amir khan after that thaxton performance.

It was at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre.. Then i use to spar with Earl, he also had Mitchell Lee Beavis and others.. Earl done nothing special but what he did do it always correct.. He boxed great that night, out boxed Romanov beat him to the punch.. FM knew what he was doing when taking that fight, Romanov had 18 odd months off had was coming off a good win against Kiven Bennett.....

Yep, like Londonirish just said, Romanov was picked at the right time - he wasn't matchfit coming off a very long layoff.

Best vs best I think Romanov would beat Earl up.

Yea Earl was tidy I just thought Romanov would blast through him no disrespect to graham and what a great win for Earl to this day as I thought Romanov was world class the way he walked through vanzie I remember being at Preston when he beat him he looked invincible live that night

Ramanov did lose his fight in January, so I guess was "back" before now and didn't look so great - although I didn't see the fight.
