Light middleweight boxer Michael Norgrove has been rushed to hospital to undergo surgery on his brain after collapsing during a fight in London.

The undefeated 31-year-old, who has five wins from five, was contesting his sixth professional fight when he fell to the ground.
With suspected bleeding on the brain, the Zambia-born fighter was immediately taken to hospital where he was operated on.
The bout was being held at the Ring in Blackfriars, the first professional boxing to be staged at the venue in 73 years.
The remainder of the fights on the card were cancelled.

Mike has had surgery witch was sucessful in removing a blood clot. Now will be sedated for a few days, is in a stable condition.

Was working as the house second it was a horrible thing to see happen he handnt taken a single big shot so makes you wonder where the damage was done ? was up in the fight having droped the other lad in the first round.

I know refs and the board get slagged a lot but I felt Jeff Hinds was spot in called a halt to the fight before Mike colpsed and never got hit with anything was well spottted. The oxygen and docs where in there within seconds. This guys is why we have the best governing body in the world There actions saved his life and probably limited as much as can be possible any long term damage.

That's good to hear he is stable and the action taken by the ref/docs was immediate. I hope he makes a full, speedy recovery.

A nightmare scenario , glad he got the proper treatment quickly and hope he comes out relatively unscathed

I'm not sure.. Phil says himself the chap didn't come under heavy fire and still this happens. What for a few hundred quid.

Could of been from sparring, but we won't know. Just hope the lad is ok and makes a good recovery.

I was also present ringside at this Mark Burford promotion.
This came as a complete shock to everyone who was there, there was nothing to indicate what was about to unfold.
Jeff Hinds the referee was brilliant in his actions to call a halt & the medical team were in the ring in a flash giving Mike attention.
When this unfortunate situation happens The Board of Control are second to none in getting medic's on the scene to help the stricken boxer, which of course is how it should be.
Mike, our thoughts are with you & your family in this difficult time, we all wish you a speedy recovery, & also my thoughts are with the promoter Mark Burford who showed great concern for Mike.

what a terrible occurance. all thoughts go to michael and the excellent work of those who took swift action. also such a pity that this happened on such an occasion at this historic venue.

hi peter, yeah my old fella was not well enough to go and we felt the cold weather was too much. however he's eager to go to next sundays meeting when you'll have to make yourself known to us both and incur the penalty of a cold pint.

Sounds like Jeff Hinds did an excellent job, we all give the refs criticism on here for various reasons, but this shows that they have such a hard job to do. These sort of injuries to boxers will obviously play on the refs mind, i hope Jeff is taking the news about the injury ok, it must be hard for a ref to look back on a fight that someone suffers a serious injury in.

I slagged Jeff when he stopped my fight in the first round and yes it may of been the wrong call but the difference is I'm still hear and if I was hurt and took some unnecessary punishment things could be a different story so when someone calls a fight early we have to learn to respect its hard to call and its best to go safety first. We can come back from an early stoppage but can u come back from a career ending beating NO.

Is jeff hinds the black ref who does the small hall london circuit, if so he's a fabulous referee in my opinion. Against Nathan Weise i just wasnt right and he stopped the fight what looked a bit prematurely but I was absolutely out on my feet and he saved me from a far more embarrassing and concussive knockout in all likelihood.

I thought it was such a good call. As gutted as I was.

He is and I agree.

I can imagine someone thinking he is a soift touch, he looks so mild mannered, but I believe he is a proper bad man, don't be fooled by the plaits!

I hope MN makes a complete recovery, these guys have a dangerous job, and its always sad when these things happen.
