It's about time. Hatton has been a joke as a promoter. Quigg deserves better.

Just goes to show how difficult this promoting lark is. Hatton must have thought it was going to be easy. When he was in demand for the big fights, it was probably a licence to print money. But promoting with no TV deal is not a huge money spinner. Joe Calzaghe had a go at it as well.

Scott will probably go to matchroom, they seem to be the ones with all the dates.

I'm sure Quigg and Hatton are both frustrated with the TV situation - but boxing is a very short career and Scott needs to crack on.

This is absolutely fantastic news for boxers. Boxers jumping camps should not be a dirty, sordid affair carried out under the threat of legal action. Promoters and managers have several decades in the sport if they wish to partake for so long, boxers have very very few years in order to make their mark. I hope the recent defections from w.arren, and this development with Quigg, brings this area of the sport out into the open and swings it more towards the boxer. It should become a normal part of the sport.

Premiership footballers are tied to fixed term contracts and it is open knowledge when the contracts are up. They are free to enter into negotiations for a new contract, or wait until the contract is up, and then walk. The termination date on a boxer's contract should not be a trade secret. Promoters and managers have no divine right to a "cradle to the grave" contract with a boxer. I know they all sign legal BBBC contracts but I think the secrecy surrounding them belongs in a bygone era. More transparency and open market conditions could help boxers get the best deal possible, without them being branded ungrateful traitors who have no loyalty.

If a promoter cannot get a TV deal, it is unfortunate but meanwhile the boxer sits idle, his career loses momentum, and his remaining time in the sport dwindles away. If a promoter cannot deliver on his side of the bargain, tough. The promoter would soon downgrade the fighter's purses and kick him into touch if he lost two or three fights on the bounce. It works both ways. The fighter bares his soul in the ring, and puts himself in the public eye to be watched, cheered on, slagged off, ridiculed, whatever. The manager/promoter should not enjoy the benefits that contractual secrecy brings.

Long may boxers jumping camp continue :TU:

If Murray wins it I bet he goes with an American promoter. Beating Martinez would be huge.

I pick Martinez by Tko8 though.

Hearn will end up poaching Quigg from Hatton soon. Hatton is a shit promoter with a few good fighters but they don't deserve to not be on television

Jim jim,
Boxers have Contracts with Promotors - often 2 years or 3 years.
At the end of the Contract the fighter can either re negotiate or seek a deal elsewhere.
During the life of the Contract terms and conditions apply.
If either side breaches the Contract then either side can rescind the Contract by taking appropriate action initially via the Board or vis the Courts.
If the fighter wins then he is free from the Contract and can join whoever he pleases.
If the fighter loses he is deemed to be under Contract and must stay.
The Contract is not bound by confidentiality so if the fighter wants to reveal details he can.
A copy is lodged with the Board.

Which part of this do you consider is any different to that of a professional footballer ?

Some really good points.

At least in football footballers get a guaranteed weekly wage regarless of whether they play of not. Some footballers are making over £1 million per year and play less than 5 games over the whole season. In boxing however if you are not being used in events you have no income. Footballers can go out on loan or request a move if they are not playing. More often than not the club will agree as it means they don't have to pay for a bench warmer. In boxing the promoter losses nothing by not using the fighter.

Fighters need more rights or should be able to at least agree rolling contracts that are renewed every 4 months.

Chad,
Boxers can't fight every week for obvious reasons.
However many Contracts do stipulate a minimum number of fights per "season".
Also many stipulate minimum purses for non title, British, European, and World title fights.
A balance needs to be applied because the tone of this is that the Promotors are sheisters and fighters are squeaky clean.
What about when fighters pull out in the last week of a fight when all the promotion, advertising etc is spent and sometimes in highly dubious circumstances ?
Should a Promotor seek redress ? Of course not. Part of the job.

Chad,
I dont think it's fair to compare football and boxing but would just like to point out that many loan deals for players from a higher division club to a lower division are on the basis that the parent club plays the whole, or substantial portion of the players wages.
Imagine Frank loaning Cleverly to Eddie, and still having to pay 50% of his purse .................

At this stage of his carrier Scott should have been out by now after fighting early December he has been in the gym keeping his side of the contract he needs to be show cased he is a talent that's not geeting the right exposure look at frampton he is filling out venues I think Scott would be better of signing with Hearn and getting the tv exposure he deserves

The part I'm not happy with is how fighters who leave a certain promoter - Burns, Calzaghe, Hatton and Hamed for example - are branded disloyal traitors and sued. Bellew got sued too. Even now, there is a lack of open clarity about what consitutes termination of a contract on the part of a promoter, as evidenced by the Burns vs W.arren dispute. The latter claims a contract is still in place, the former says it is not. Burns has been publicly branded an ungrateful and disloyal traitor who would never have won a world title without w.arren. This is the bit I'm not happy with :TU:
