Danny Green ??

Just wondering if anyone has heard any rumours etc regarding Danny's next bout. It has gone very quiet. Angelo is keeping busy with promotions etc coming up over here in the west, but no news or even chatter about what could be next for Dan.
I was speaking with someone recently and Toney's name got brought up as he is coming to Oz for Browne. I think this would have been a sellable bout at Cruiser (if Toney could get there !!). Hopefully Dan will make some type of announcement soon, he's not getting any younger......if you havent heard anything, who would you like to see him face.

Give him someone halfway credible, like Firat Arslan or Troy Ross.

Expect an announcement within a month.
My personal opinion is that we will see Wlodarczyk return to our shores for a rematch, to be held in the New Perth Arena. Fantastic venue!

Except Wlodarczyk is a fricking boring non-puncher.

I honestly think Greeny has nothing more to prove. He has done well in his career and at 40 his best is well behind him.
If he wants to go again good on him but taking on the elite at Cruiser is a massive ask at 40.

I agree completely, especially considering he's a small cruiserweight who walks around at 86kg between fights and enters the ring outweighed by 10kg. I think it's a shame that he had his first retirement when he did, he could have had a decent title reign at light heavyweight and possibly been involved in a unification bout.

Wlod a non puncher! Are u saying he doesnt throw many or he has no power? He has heaps of pop and holds one of the major titles. Hes one of the top cruisers in the world and danny believes it is the fight that got away. A fight at perth arena would be huge. I think wlod is the logical choice as it wont cost near as much as a major us fighter......but the risk with wlod is as big as any elite cruiser out there.

fornicate it. green should stick with his age group.
he has nothing more to prove.
he takes his beatings with his wins. im happy to see him fight toney. 50-50 fight i recon at cruiser if toney can make it. but fornicate it. if toney is fat and heavy, dan should out punch him anyway. whats to lose?
you beat a legend, you become a legend.....right?

There's footage on you tube of green sparring Toney years ago. Green gets schooled!

That clip was a long time ago, Toney has got alot worse since, and Green has sort of stayed at the same levelish.
Plus with sparring you can never read to much into it, usually the fighters in the ring are at different points in their training cycles so it is a bit like comapering apples to pears (in a way)!
However, Toney has proved he can come down to the Cruiser limit recently when he fought for the WBA CW title last year, I think the fight would sell pretty well, and with Toney you know he will generate interest with a ill timed comment that would send the Aussie media into a frenzy !!

I must say i would be happy for dan to retire, but I have a feeling he won't. Just curious what people would want to see...if/when he does fight again. Bring out a legend, past his prime Toney or fight a reigning world champ in Wlod or soemthing different. Asking a question not making a statement. Selfishly I would love to see another legend on our shores, just not sure if Toney is it or if it is even possible. The first Wlod fight was a beauty so i would pay to see it again.

There is not much love for Toney on the main board. Given that he has stayed around far too long he has had a good record when younger. Been in with some top fighters. Surely he has enough money to retire and sit by the pool.

If you want to see Toney, head to Melbourne to see him roll into the ring against Lucas Browne. (As a side note: Lucas is looking in fantastic condition for this fight, looks to have shed a fair chunk of weight from his frame.)
Another little birdy whispered that Greeny might surprise us all with a return to light-heavyweight late in the year for a title shot against Beibut Shumenov. Again, on our shores.

How many titlefights can Green buy?

I know. I like to see fighters work their way into contention for a title within the governing bodies.
I was pretty disappointed to hear a rumour today on twitter that Anthony Mundine might have got himself a shot at a title at junior-middleweight. Not great for the sport when you can come off a loss and walk straight into a title shot. I hope it is untrue. By the way, I am not trying to turn this into a Choc vs Green thread, just sharing some news of similar ilk.

Green v Shumenov was touted many moons ago, and Greeny stayed at Cruiser. Even at his age and after several wars since, I think Green has a good crack at winning this. Money talks I suppose. Just curious, whats the rumour re Choc ??

Choc is still talking about fighting for a world title at 11 stone. I doubt he could be strong at that weight.

And i hope so. I think he has 2 fights that got away, Beyer and Wlod, and Wlod 1 was a great fight to watch, would be very excited to see this fight, and Greeny needs to not come to the fight with a black eye, this should help his cause.

It'll be a good fight. The first fight was great. I hope Greeny gets another shot, and make it a unification.

Agreed, and it is better than nothing. The one thing that annoys me over here is that the media in Aus regard it as a actual world title. It really bugs me, and you want to wind me up on this board ( and I always bite!!), refer to the IBOllox title as a world title!! And if you say 'well Wladimar holds it' that makes me bite even more!!!!
The only thing I would like to see the main bodies doing is to copy the ranking system that the IBOllox has, that is very clever and very sensible!! But it does'nt make it a proper world title!!

So who do you think the proper world champions are, and what belts if any do they hold and why do they have more of a hold to being the real world champ than Danny....not arguing with but would like to see your rationale behind the statement you made. I look at danny and think he could match it with any champ out there. he holds a belt, so why isnt it legit ??
