Be good to see Parker earn his stripes first as a NZ Heavyweight pro and fight the likes of Tatupu, Wilson, Williams, Mataele etc at least establish himself as the top dog in NZ at that level (not taking into account Tua, Cameron who are on the world level or at least Regional in shanes case) Instead of acting like a circus act and taking on SBW's leftovers........

Beating Botha is loose loose for him. As winning all you do is beat a 45yo washed up never was. Loose and then ......well thats a BIG step backward loosing to a 45yo washed up never was......

Yep after beating Grand Pa Botha... George Foreman and then Frank Bruno too ... I wonder based on this logic and theory the current All Blacks should play the 95 Springboks to "avenge" the world cup defeat.... oh well..... Anything to make buck...good , good, very well....

Would I be wrong for suggesting Ritani-Coe has been a VERY well chosen "opponent" probably there to give Parker a glorified sparring session

No, probably not but he's only had 4 pro fights it's got to be a great experience fighting in the states. Did you go to the Mayweather fight Craig? I see Parker went.

You could be forgiven for thinking that I'd say.

I hope they announce how many rounds Botha v Parker is prior to the fight and stick to it

ONE NEWS

Joseph Parker dominated his heavyweight fight with Brice Ritani-Coe for a unanimous points decision win in Los Angles tonight.

The great New Zealand hope dominated from start to finish and unleashed a barrage of combinations on his opponent, who was 19kgs heavier, to improve his record to 4-0.

All three judges scored the fight 60-54 but Ritani-Coe, to his credit, proved he was one tough customer by absorbing all of the brutal punishment in the six-round contest at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine, Los Angeles.

This was the first time 21-year-old Parker had gone the full distance in his fledging professional career and with a fight against Francois Both in Auckland next month, this bout has served its purpose.

MORE TO COME

Am I the only one who thinks this kid is a little overhyped? I don't know, I just don't get what the fuss is about with him. I've seen a number of his fights and haven't really come away with any awe in his ability. His hand speed is nice though.

He does get alot of media attention and got a great promotional deal but only in NZ and probably based on the kiwi public needing a new David Tua, he's only been a pro for less than 10 months though and is still only 21. It's putting boxing on the 6 o'clock news though which can only be good. Are you going to the Botha fight?

Read the papers this morning.
They've added a dwarf fight to the card.
No seriously. I'm not kidding.

Lonergan claims in this story that this will legitimise dwarf boxing and puts it along side giving women the vote and gay marriage legislation in NZ.
Wtf. Can't we just try and put together a decent card? Does it have to be a fornicating sideshow? He's also put a couple of DJ's from local radio stations in there ffs

There was a fight on an Aussie card a few years back now between 2 dwarfs and if I remember correctly Joe Bugner refereed it. I have no issue with these little blokes having a fight. Trouble is they are likely to be treated like some kind of sideshow circus.

Oh I've got no issue with them having a crack in the ring.
The fact remains that this IS a sideshow though. It's not as if these guys are fighting for some title or have worked their way towards being on a card like this.
They're being used as a freak show to sell a few more tickets by Lonergan and Duco.

I have a problem with dwarf boxing and womens boxing, I don't wish to see either and I certainly won't be paying to see it. How to ruin a bill I was looking forward to. A couple birds pitty-pattying for 10 rounds and a freak show. I know one of the dwarfs he drinks at the Albion near sky city in central Auckland he's a massive p1ss head and can't fight his way out of a carrier bag, and he's probably the favourite.

As for the dj fight. Celebrity and corparate boxing is ruining Pro boxing in N.Z and turning it into a laughing stock, rant over.

Bang on mate. Let the dwarfs and DJs fight on the Fight for Life card which is all sideshow anyway.
