Channel 5's programme last night looked low budget and cobbled together at the last minute. We know that this is probably because they are pulling out of boxing but it was still unimpressive. The irony is with Tyson Fury they have got a huge draw and they would be mad to throw it away now that he is hitting the big time. Hughie Fury's fights too look like being real crowd pleasers. For god's sake Channel 5 pull your finger out and make some quality broadcasts out of this superb oppurtunity.

The point is the presenter knew nothing and the general look of the show was poor, they didn't even show the ring walks. this was a great fight let down by laclustre low rent production which was a shame.

It was an extremely low budget presentation. It made Channel 5 look very poor quality to those who don't usually tune into it, not good for image.

Did they not show the walk in,I could have sworn I saw Fury coming to the ring, I did turn over from the other bill though so must be getting mixed up

I was too interested in the excitment to worry about stuff like that.

It was in HD and thats all that should matter (Sky channel 171 for 5HD)

They did show both ringwalks. Chemistry between Pougatch and Degale in the horribly cheap studio was pretty non-existen, watching the forced conversation to eat up 15mins before the fight was like teeth being pulled. With Degale finishing nearly every sentence with "Man" or "Yeah"! I can understand them having James in the studio as he's a Hennessy man who'll be showcased on the channel in future but they should have had a 3 man crew with a knowledgeable guy on the panel also.

Having said all that it was the best heavyweight fight I've seen in a while, I had a mate living in the US who was ringside and said Fury made a massive impression over there and the yanks can't wait till he returns. I thought his performance was reminiscent of the debut of Naz in the US with him getting rocked early, but getting the job done in a cracking fight and whilst he showed flaws he had the firepower to make up for his other shortcomings.

FFS, some people will whinge about anything. The studio bit was fine, the coverage was fine. There's not a huge amount of money knocking about and I'm glad they covered it.

the point is this should have been a showcase for channel 5 and all it showed was their ineptitude. they only showed the end of the ring walks so my point stands there as well.

A 'showcase' costs money. They (apparently) don't have much. I don't agree that it was inept. It was bog-standard production which was fine, IMO. In fact, I found it refreshing in contrast to the highly-sugared Sky stuff. C5 will only have been able to show what the host broadcaster was showing.

You got to see, on terrestrial telly, a cracking fight you wouldn't have seen if it wasn't for Channel 5 sticking with boxing and spending a few quid.

Didn't they say they were "pulling out" of boxing anyway?

To be honest, I don't care about the production, it was the fight I was viewing for. I do hate biased commentary though. They are no more than speaking advertisements these days.

I am thankful they showed the fight i am just saying it should have been better presented thats all which is an issue I hope they will address next time; if there is a next time which after the superb entertainment provided by fury and Cunningham there should be.

It's Channel 5 for fucks sake, the least relevant of the terrestrial channels you've got to cut them sum slack for poor quality.

No. Some media chap at their end tweeted that they had no plans to show boxing (meaning that at that time they didn't have any in the schedule). I don't think he understood how it would be taken.

Last night is an indication that they are showing some and Fury's performance last night certainly won't put them off showing more. There were three channels showing boxing last night and I chose C5 (though I did flick on to Sky too). Hopefully their figures will be OK. And NBC showing it in the States must be good.

Chaennel 5 have always been bargain basement. They put most of their budget into buying up half the US crime drama shows and Steven Seagal movies.
I give them credit for even showing boxing and bringing it back to terrestrial TV. Long may it continue.

Agreed. Its alright moaning about this crap when the fight turns out to be shite and there is nothing else to talk about, but the fight was great. Fury's shortcomings make it more exciting for us and I wasn't to worried about the presentation. It was nice to have a Stateside fight on at primetime here as well. I hope we get more of it and if we do you can give me the same studio team every time.

Idiotic choice. Won him no fans here. He is entertaining, but I can't wait until he gets KTFO, hopefully by a Brit.

Yesterday she was it work, so I tidied the house. Dusted the shelves, hoovered the floor, cleaned the kitchen cabinets, put up a new painting... she walks in and of course, moans that I haven't mopped the kitchen floor.

Did you have to pay a subscription fee for it?
Does any other terrestrial station show boxing?

You moan that boxing is split over subscription channels and PPV, then when it's free you moan that they haven't put the effort in.
