A very very tough task in the back yard of martinez with thousands of argies calling for his head.

On the other hand Martinez is getting on abit and he got rocked big time by chavez jr in his last fight.

I think Murray is in with a genuine chance and has got SM at the right time. SM is a true p4p great as its widely recongnised that he's fighting above his natural weight. Murray will have to be nothing short of 100% fit and ready but he can take heart from what another big MW can do to Martinez in Chavez. Murray is an absolute beast at the weight, until you've stood next to him or been in the same room as him you just can't believe how big he is and I think he may even chop Martinez down. SM is cagey, counters well but does let off the gas in spells and if Murray can take him out of his comfort zone he's in with a shout. Oh and at 6/1 I'm taking him.

Yes - Stracey vs Napoles all over again. Murray has got him at the right time, Martinez went
'old' in the latter stages of the Chavez fight and Murray will be bringing more heat than Chavez did
that night.

I dont see it happening. As big as Murray is, Chavez is a huge middleweight who comes into the ring at about 185 pounds and the guy has a cast iron chin otherwise Martinez would of taken him out in the later stages of the fight I think. Also I think Chavez is a bigger puncher than Murray is and again it was Chavez's ability to take a shot and his punching power which caused Martinez to go down in the 12th. I dont think it had anything to do with Martinez getting old or being past his best as for 11 rounds he absolutely toyed with Chavez! Lets be honest aswell Chavez beat a good fighter in Andy Lee who I dont think Murray would just walk through!

Murray can also be spurred on from Macklins performance too, it was very close throughb the start and middle rounds and there was a good case for the fight being stopped against Chavez as Martinez didn't know what day it was when against the ropes. It's a huge ask but I've got a gut feeling Martin can do it, he's young, huge, hungry and has that important nasty streak. I really cant wait till fight night as either way I think it will be a cracking fight.

Cannot see it myself - not sure where Murray has this power that people are now thinking he could stop Martinez.

Chavez, whilst with his undoubted flaws, is a very decent fighter who I think would be too much for the British boys.

Chavez is the biggest middleweight out there. Sergio Martinez is a decent sized middleweight now. The only way Murray can beat Martinez is if Martinez gets old overnight.

Murray beginning to get dismantled from the 5th round onwards and referee or corner stops fight around the 10th. Instead of drawing similarities with Napoles v Stracey its more like Broner v Rees. Sorry, and I hope I'm wrong , but sometimes the head has to rule the heart.

I'd love him to do it but sadly cannot see it.

I've not seen anything in Murray to suggest he gets stopped, seems like a very tough bloke to me.

However, I haven't seen much to suggest he can outbox Martinez, but I wouldn't put it past him to make it very close and interesting. I like Murray.

who has he fought of the calibre of Martinez to see how tough he is though? The best opponent he's fought upto now is Sturm and as we all know he's not a puncher.

I'd be thinking that Murray will probably still be in the fight with three rounds to go, but that he will end up losing either a relatively narrow points decision or a late stoppage that he might protest.

Why do I think that? Well, I think he'll be competitive because I think he is actually quite underrated. He was very unlucky, if not outright robbed, against Sturm and has a good workrate and power which, given that Martinez does tend to let rounds slip by on occasion, should see him stay in the fight until late.

But to actually beat Martinez, he is either relying upon a very sudden aging of the Champion (not going to happen just yet) or being able to really hurt him, and I don't know that he will manage that. As such, and given that we know Martinez carries power late in fights, I can see it slipping agonisingly away from Murray.

Even as well as he did against Sturm and as good as he has looked (against limited opposition) since..... I still see the Cello Renda prizefighter contest and worry about Murray against the best in the business.

Martinez is a different league, with different power to the 2012 version of Sturm.

Anything is possible.

The only downside is that he aint faced any southpaws I believe - and he's facing an absolutely stand-out southpaw who can punch.

Very true. I just see Murray as very solid and someone who makes few mistakes, so Martinez is going to have to work hard to find an opening big enough to stop him IMO.

By the way, I think Martinez wins, I'm just not ruling Murray out completely, I think he has a few gears we haven't seen yet.

Has to be by KO and he does not hit hard enough,imo.

Pretty much sums it up for me. It's a huge ask (hence the odds etc) but I think Murray does have it in him. Other British fighters have set the bar for performances against Martinez and Murray will be looking to do better. Good luck MM.

Martinez is getting on a bit, and he could fall apart late on. But if i was putting a bet on i'd go for Martinez by stoppage in 9th.

Best of luck to Martin, he is doing things the hard way here and I think it is a step too far.

Heart as a Brit sees Martin Murray beats an ageing Sergio Martinez. Head thinks the quicker, wiley and more proven Martinez boxes rings around Murray to take a wide decision.
