How good is Pedersen?

Does he have any chance at all with Hatton on three days' notice? Or is he just a sacrificial lamb? Danish fighters are normally solid. And good travellers, too.
What's the score with this guy?

Here's how good he is :

Boris Sinitsin wins KO3 Dennis Pedersen

Pedersen is barely more than a Journeyman. His record is a FRAUD, all his wins are against unknown Euro puddings!

What a let-down!

You'd think that a supposed big time promoter like allegedly would have Substitues in place in case anything happens! The guys a JOKE!!

And now from someone that have actually seen him fight.
Holbæk is a good european level lightweight who did fairly good against Spadafora comming of a long lay-off. As I recall it Holbæk had Spadafora in big trouble in the start of the fight, but Spadafora survived.
True Sinitsin KOed him in their first fight, but that was one beatiful right hand.
I think Holbæk will be able to give Hatton alot of rounds, but then agian I havent seen that much of Hatton since his fights are not shown on TV here. Hatton is the clear favorite but I think(hope) that holbæk will go all 12 rounds

I ain't seen him fight, but I think Freiheit sounds fairly on the money with this one - apparently he did very well vs Sparaforda so I assume he is better than Rios.

The record is good and Hatton has been training for a green big Light Welter, not an experienced small fighter - which could give him a few problems.

I think Hatton might be made to look ordinary early on (giving his critics a field day) and Pedersen will know too much to make him look bad (like Rios did). I expect a wide points win for the Manchester man though - very much like Rios, but a little bit more competitive.

It might be hard for Hatton to get up for this...from a fight that many thought was 50/50 to a fight that he`s expected to win easily...Fear is a huge motavator....

I have seen him fight in Denmark twice. He can't punch , is easy to hit, and no way is he a light welterwight. He is going to get smoked. This one aint going to points or the halfway mark.

First of all, Paul Spadafora hits like a little girl so its no acheivement to go 12 rounds with him!

PEDERSEN is a JOKE.

Hatton must be embarresed that Warren has dug this bum up for him to fight!

PEDERSEN won't last more than 3 round's for sure!

This is not a good fight at all and will damage Hatton's growing reputation beacuse of the Stink the fight makes!

Shrinking reputation is more like it.

I don't blame Hatton for this development - not his fault - but I DO blame him for taking the safe route by sticking with Warren. That appears to be incompatible with actually making an impact on the world stage, and Hatton need look no further than stablemate Calzaghe for ample evidence of that.

If you want to stay at home on your small island, fight only local boys, has-beens and never-wases, fine - but don't go around pretending your carefully-bought WBOgus title is some kind of undisputed world championship, because outside of Fast Frankie's local zone of mesmerism, it just won't fly.

WBUgus actually.

Pedersen is NOT a bum by any means. I've outlined his credentials over on britishboxing.net. However, we all know Ricky is a big light-welter. Anything could happen (early, middle or points)...all for Hatton though.

I agree that Hatton needs to step up. The fight after this needs to be a biggie.

So what you are saying is rather than fighting the Pedersons of this world, Hatton & Warren should really be trying to secure fights with better, up-comming, undefeated fighters.....like say....Kelson Pinto, right?

I don't recall Pedersen ever having Spadafora in trouble, but I think he was winning the fight after about the first 5 rounds. He did well and landed some good shots, but once Spadafora got back into his regular style and rhythm he easily started winning rounds.

Having said that, I thought Pedersen did much better than expected against Spaddy, but he looked small for a lightweight, and I think he'll look smaller for a light welterweight. In another thread, someone mentioned Pedersen spent a good deal of his career at 130, so he's probably not a true 140 lb. fighter.

I didn't get the impression that he has enough boxing skill to win rounds against Hatton, and I'm certain he's not strong enough to make it a brawl, so I can't see how he can win. I think the real question is how many rounds he can get through.

No - how about actual proven world-class guys like, say, just about anyone ranked in the top 20?

Here's the BoxRec top 20 at light welter:

1 Ricky Hatton [United Kingdom] 25 2,062 1997 34-0-0
2 Sharmba Mitchell [United States] 33 1,990 1988 53-3-0
3 Zab Judah [United States] 26 1,949 1996 30-1-0
4 Miguel Angel Cotto [Puerto Rico] 23 1,940 2001 19-0-0
5 Paul Spadafora [United States] 28 1,889 1995 36-0-1
6 Vivian Harris [Guyana] 25 1,887 1997 23-1-1
7 Arturo Gatti [Canada] 31 1,863 1991 37-6-0
8 Oktay Urkal [Germany] 34 1,841 1996 34-1-0
9 Leonard Dorin [Romania] 33 1,817 1998 22-0-1
10 Junior Witter [United Kingdom] 30 1,796 1997 27-1-2
11 Jesse James Leija [United States] 37 1,793 1988 45-6-2
12 Lovemore N'Dou [South Africa] 32 1,775 1993 37-6-1
13 Michael Stewart [United States] 26 1,722 1996 35-1-2
14 Terrance Cauthen [United States] 27 1,720 1996 25-1-0
15 Francisco Bojado [United States] 20 1,712 2001 15-1-0
16 Andreas Kotelnik [Ukraine] 26 1,711 2000 22-0-0
17 Ben Tackie [Ghana] 30 1,704 1994 25-5-0
18 Alex Trujillo [Puerto Rico] 29 1,702 1997 23-1-0
19 Juan Valenzuela [Mexico] 23 1,695 1998 20-6-0
20 Souleymane M'baye [France] 29 1,676 1998 27-1-0

Note Hatton's lofty #1 ranking. Did he get it by beating several other top guys on that list? No. In fact, the ONLY guy on that list he's beaten is way down at #17. It's classic allegedly smoke and mirrors - Calzaghe's re'sume' is distressingly similar.

Yeah, I can't understand why they didn't search for a light-welter on that panicky Wednesday. Their gut instinct was to search for a lightweight. It's quite sickening.
None of the plonkers on Fight Skool last night had the balls to speak out and ask the obvious question - why is Hatton facing a lightweight after the Aldo Rios fiasco!

Whilst it is dissapointing, I don't really blame them at all. Why bother taking any risks when you've been training long and hard for a different opponent, when you have what amounts to a likely title eliminator bout against Mitchell in the summer.

I do hope that Ricky fights Mitchell next, why bother arseing around any more, I think Mitchell is beatable, and as he has had hell to make weight, may lose before Ricky gets the chance.

Pederson is a blown up super featherweight.....most of his career has been at super feather, while Hatton has fought his entire pro career at light welter....and he is a big light welter at that.

Hatton is going to find it hard to get up for yet another fight with a lightweight.
Imagine if he comes in flat, gets caught by a few too many and gets a bad cut......... :o :o

Still, he's rightly 33/1 to win tonight. Let's hope the Dane puts up a good show....but not too good :D

Well as for matchmaking ... Allan Vester was offered the fight first, he couldn't and throu Anders Vester's (Allan's father and promotor) Dennis Holbæk was offered the fight. Allan Vester is a joke and would have lost in round one.

Holbæk actually did pretty OK ... he took the fight with a few days notice and went up a weightclass and he went 6 rounds, got up twice from some hard bodyshots and was stopped at a strange time. I think Holbæk did fine considering the circumstances, he was never going to win that fight, but he put up a good fight.

I would like to see him back in his own weightclass and with prober prepeation, then I think he'll do fine one european scale (again).

As for Hatton, good luck I think you are going to need it against real conteders ... some of the shots Holbæk did land would have stopped Hatton, if his opponent had some power...
