It looks to be a cracking fight for the IBF Bantamweight title this Saturday in Doncaster. I've been a fan of McDonnell ever since I saw him as a relative novice go twelve hard rounds for the British super flyweight title and drop a close decision to Chris Edwards. Since then he's gone from strength to strength and I really hope he can join our current crop of world champions.
Admittedly I haven't seen his opponent Julio Ceja box but he is arguably the favourite having beaten 3 world title challengers and a former world champion as well as having an impressive 24-0(22kos) record. However, here's hoping Jamie uses his height and reach advantages to put on a boxing master class.

I wish him well. Not sure why it's on Primetime.

It would be fantastic to have a World title at one of these lower divisions again. Good luck to him. If Lee Haskins can get himself into the IBF rankings it would be a great World title fight that would surely generate interest over here.

Really hope Jamie can do it. Don't know that much about the opponent other than his record and a few bits I've read so won't pretend I've got any expert opinion on this!

Cejas camp have filed a complaint due to 2 officials including ref Howard Foster being appointed. Can't blame him really I'd be pretty pissed off travelling all the way from Mexico then finding out the ref stays next door to your opponent.

I've been watching Ceja's fights; he looks well schooled and is a spiteful body puncher. He's also got a secret weapon in Nacho Berinstain; one of the best trainers out there. This would be a massive win for McDonnell! Regarding the officials; the Ceja camp have every right to complain however I'm not quite sure of the rules: I thought it only applied to judges regarding neutrality? Anyone know?

Very interesting weekend, as both Ricky Burns & Jamie McD take on fairly unknown, unbeaten, Lat Am punchers. Are they both as good as they look ? or protected and over rated ?
I think it's true to say they've both been well protected. Ceja's record is impressive, but I'm not sure he's the real thing: the matchmaking seems a bit cautious for your usual Mexican prospect.
I reckon both Burns and Jamie McDonnell can win tonight. But both could be one punch away from losing though...,

Having watched bits and bats of the two I'd say McDonnell is in with the better opponent. Ceja looks to have balance and power and I'd say his opposition is much better than Gonzalez. Three of Ceja's opponents had challenged for a world title and of course he beat teak tough former WBO champ Cruz Carbajal, albeit at the end of his career.
Gonzalez looks a bit disjointed at times and IMO isn't the puncher his record would suggest.

Watched the prime time buildup a few comments.
1) How bad was Ian Napa robbed against McDonnell (its overlooked when we have the discussions of worst decisions on British soil).
2) How much has Jamie McDonnell improved since Napa (he gets overlooked when we have discussions about most improved British fighter).
3) Its 7 o clock, first televised fight is on and there is about 3 people in the arena... how well has this fight sold?
