Just thinking about the Jamie McDonnell/Julio Ceja IBF Bantamweight title fight this weekend,who was the last Brit to win a world title as light as Bantamweight,i cant think,the lightest i can think of is Bernard Dunne winning a Super Bantamweight world championship a few year back
i know most of you will remember,i bet theres a real obvious 1 i cant think of

Didn't Duke Mckenzie have the WBO strap? Then there was that Welsh lad who won it and then disappeared. Think he got ill. Name escapes me.

Drew Docherty fought twice for it, and lost, but I can't think of anyone else.

Pat Clinton won his Flyweight title in '92 by beating the late Isidro Perez.

At Bantamweight I think Wayne McCullough is the last British/Irish boxer to win a world title. I may be wrong.

Think Billy Hardy is the only boxer to fight for the IBF title , he fought Orlando Canizales twice for it. Was even slightly unlucky in the first fight, thought he just shaded it, But that might of been me being biased. He was 2nd best in the rematch, but then again a pale ginger northerner in 100 degree heat in Texas was always going to be up against it.

The problem was in the 2000's there were strong champions in the 4 main bodies, and we had the delightful WBU and WBF shite over here. So whilst they were operating there was little chance of our guys fighting anyone genuine for a title

Mickey Cantwell fought for numerous alphabetical world titles at the lighter weights never winning one though.

Robbie Reagan won the IBF Interm title at Fly then the WBO at Bantam. Failed a medical after the fight and retired. He's now a trainer and opened a new gym in Cefn Forrest.

Brain injury, shadow I believe. Robbie was a great fighter, very exciting to watch.

Yes, Regan is the last, and he beat a very good fighter in Daniel Jiminez to take the WBO belt, putting the Puerto Rican on the floor in the process. Regan was an excellent fighter; the man was simply never in a bad fight.
Paul Lloyd fought for the IBF bantamweight title in '98, although he didn't last long against Tim Austin. As for smaller men, we won a host of world flyweight titles, with Lynch, Allen, Magri and Wilde coming to mind.

Who was the Scot who was on Ringside recently, he was a very low weight. I think he was Strawweight and won another title in Light-fly.

Thats him alright. WBO minimumweight and light-fly champion.
