I found it totally mystifying when a large section of the crowd booed the announcement of the American judges and the referee from Las Vegas at the Burns and Gonzalez fight.
Did they think for one minute that this would help Burns if it had come to a close points decision? I was at ringside and noticed the horrified expression on the face of one of the judges who, like me , obviously didn't understand the reaction.
We know that the yanks are patriotic , and why shouldn't they be , but if you remember the furore when Hatton's fans booed the American national anthem prior to his fight with Mayweather. It doesn't do us any favours .

However, the long and short of it is , why did we boo the American judges. Am I missing something ?? Personally I feel closer to our American cousins than I do to the rest of Europe, and most people I know feel the same way. This wasn't an isolated dozen or so fans , this was hundreds .

I personally think people get offended too easily. If they're professionals why should they care, they're only defending their man (right or in this case clearly wrong)

I can see why people get offended booing the national anthems, esp Americans. Personally I see the funny side, it's only a song but each to their own beliefs

But surely on Saturday night they couldn't simply be defending their man, who were they defending him against ? They simply booed the American officials because they were American.
I don't think booing a visitors national anthem is funny, we are probably the only country in the world whose 'sporting' fans do this . Why do fans in other countries respect the national anthems of visitors ?

There was somthing rather enjoyable about Tony Thompson knocking out Price after the way he was treated... "I TOLD YOU BRITS!"

I heard the booing. The Glesgay crowd apparently found out that the American judge had a dog that bought in England.

Cant understand why anyone boos any national anthem. its Disrespectful. Just ignorant dimlows who have probably never laced up a pair of gloves, be better if they just stuck to watching football games.

Wow, I didn't even know that you Anglo/Irish were even aware of how offended we Americans become when our National Anthem is booed. We don't take it as the simple booing of a song, we take it personally, as if you were trashing us and our country personally. Think what you will, but it is what it is. I went into that fight hoping to see Hatton knock Floyd out. I changed my mind quickly however when I heard our Anthem being booed. Later on I saw how foolish it was to root against such a nice, sincere guy like Ricky Hatton. It's just that personal slights sometimes turn rational people irrational...illogical, unreasonable, et. al. But I won't react like that ever again, particularly after reading some of your thoughts on the issue. Regards all.

i think john cleese or one of the monty python guys said one time americans making
fun of the royal family was the same as brits disrespecting the american flag or anthem.
i never quite got that because a flag is a flag, and family that gets bowed down to and
genuflected to and courtsied to and "your royal highness" this or that to is not a symbol
but actual flesh and blood humans that get treated like they are special by virtue of
birth. i have been to ire many times and to uk and have relatives all over, and i think
with respect to usa, it's almost like usa is not thought of like other countries.
i have cousins who argue with me (unsolicited) that our immigration rules are cruel when
we deport people who came illegally or overstayed visas. i then say "wait a minute. your country
has stricter laws than mine". there is like this blank look in return, like they never thought
about that. it's like the opinionating is always only supposed to go one way, but i could
never imagine dumping my opinions on foreigners visiting the states. i don't even think
i've ever heard the cuban or iranian anthems booed over here. we just get used to the
boos and "yankee go home" and who they think our president should be (and not because that
is the president they have in their country, it's what THEY want for MY country) and how
americans are all wrong, yada yada, and eventually we just ignore you and are pleasantly
surprised when traveling abroad and some people are genuinely nice.

Well that doesn't make me feel all warm & fuzzy. Geez sucracristo, you really know how to stick it to a fella. I feel like I've been hit below the belt.

Booing God save the queen is basically like booing the queen... so boo away

It just feels right to boo Americans IMO


Did you hear the story of when Ozzie Osbourne got caught having a piss up the Alamo by the rozzers, the copper said "Hey man how would you like it if I peed up Buckingham Palace?", Ozzie gave him the standard British reply of "I wouldn't give a fcuk mate!"........ therein lies one of the many differences between UK and US citizens

Ozzie is of course a legend. Americans have so many racial/national sterotypes about England. The fact any American comdian/programmes impression of an Englishman is someone who sounds extremely posh/like the queen. When in fact, unless your from Kensington of somewhere posh in the countryside, hardly anyone talks like that.

You wasnae aware of the ugly American syndrome ya sassanach. So many Scottish islands being bought by americans. American foreign policy leading to things like Lockerbie.People like Donald Trump wanting to set up gaudy casinos in areas of highland beauty. American corporations taking over manafacturing plants and cutting jobs. It isnae a pretty picture pal.

I thought actually they were booing Gonzales myself. And it was just coincidence that the judge's names were being read out.
