Ive not yet signed up to the Caldwell app but i think im going to for this bill for a couple of reasons

Curtis Woodhouse drops down to Lightweight , while the opponent doesnt seem too great it will be interesting to see how Woodhouse does at lightweight .

Nav mansouri looks to earn the english title , his original opponent has withdrawn and been replaced by tyan booth , who despite him not ever being a great boxer , hes rough and tough and will try his best to make things uncomfortable inside .

Chad Gaynor although that looks like it should be a routine outing

and one of my old Unlicensed boxers Fergus Taylor is set to box Paul Haines who is also from the Unlicensed circuit and theres a bit of history to it too , as Fergus won a prizefighter on my show last year of which Paul was also an entrant but Paul failed the weight and is convinced he would have had a good shot at winning it , Fergus in that very tournament Beat Billy Besseys fighter Andy Gatenby who has now turned pro ( 1-0 )and Sheffields Lee Connelly who is also now pro ( 2-2 )

yeh i am up in Sheffield but can't make this one and i'm gutted.

Me Brother in Law is going down and it should be a cracking night

Paul Haines had a great record on the unlicensed circuit, I saw him fight to a draw with Marvin Greaves who posts on here, goes to show the step up in the pro ranks as he is 0-7 although admittedly he has been matched fairly hard. Anyone know when Hosea Burton is next out?

Apologies for the huge amount of fights. Not ideal but with summer break coming up needed to get the boxers out there.
Hopefully we get some stoppages!!
If you can get down that would be great, if not Coldwell Television Live and Free from 6.30pm.

Im told that Marvin was back on an unlicensed show recently , not sure if he actually did but the promoter asked me about an opponent for him which id have been able to arrange had we not already got him booked at the very same venue the night before .

As for Paul i watched him box on the Undercard of Degale in Hull , and i personally thought a draw was a fair result yet it was scored as a landslide to the home guy if i remember rightly , sometimes in the pros ability isnt the only thing required , also need to shift tickets , be in home corner etc , he would have had a better record as a pro if he had all the sections covered but when hes always going in as the opponent he wont get the nod and over time will adapt to survive rather than have a go , its just the way it is , i dont believe the step up from unlicensed to pro is as big as it once was , those in unlicensed , the top lads , should be more than capable of beating the journeymen types and hopefully learn a bit in the process , its when they step up above that where some come unstuck .

dont apologise dave, some people are never happy. boxing is the sport we love and your showsw always provide great atmospheres.

Personally i prefer a show to have more bouts so i dont get why anyone wouldnt be happy to be honest .

My next unlicensed show has 23 bouts matched , im starting to wonder now if people would rather i put less fights on .

14 fights is great when you are sat somewhere decent. 14 fights sat on bleachers isnt up to much!

Out of curiosity Damian why do your lads stop unlicensed? Their jobs, they wouldnt pass the medical, they dont want to commit to a pro training regime or they have reached their level?

Varies , some just aren't good enough to turn pro and never will be but can shift loads of tickets .
Some have dropped down from pro .
some cant commit to training properly or arent willing to commit .
Some say they want to turn pro but cant sell enough tickets to make it viable unless they became journeymen.
some are held back by trainers who keep telling them theyll turn them over but never do .

some are now too old for amateurs so have to go unlicensed to continue
some just do it for a bit of fun but dont want to do it amateur .

An example is a cruiserweight i had who i have no doubt would have been capable of at least a british title , but he just liked to party and do a bit of coke etc , he knew himself he didnt want to live the lifestyle of a pro , and when told he can still party in between fights as long as he focuses on training his answer was "yes but i wouldnt be doing as good as if i didnt party" which is true , hes now completely stopped boxing and emigrated to australia which is a shame , got asked to turn pro a few times , and is still only 26 now so he could still if he was actually bothered

Thats the line that gets me, sad that is. talented lads who just want to box who know they are good at what they do but for whatever reason can;t sell tickets seems like a waste to me.

I know its a money game but surely the promoter (if they think the boxer is top quality) should go all out and, well, promote? Surely if a kid is good enough (but may be a shy and retiring type out of the ring) it shouldn;t affect if they do well in the pro's?

I think i'm naive but its a shame, i just like to see any good quality sportsman do well

I agree with you , but while a promoter is swallowing his investment to get the lad doing well and promoting him the money then has to come from somewhere else , difficult balancing act really , that idea would work for real top quality lads , but whos going to put that effort into a lad that might only be capable of an area title ?

Ive got a lad who is super middleweight champion within my organisation , who 2 years ago looked like he was going to develop into a good pro , but he cant sell tickets , only does about ten , which even for my shows isnt good enough really , as hes not covering the cost of his opponents , but to me the time has passed , hes stagnated by being on the unlicensed too long and isnt really improviing any more , probably only a matter of time before he loses his title , he could turn pro and be a very good journeyman and earn well from it , but his trainer wont do it , he says he doesnt want people to be journeymen as it looks bad on him as a trainer .

There's probably only a small percentage of people who are bothered about the long bills really. I'm in that % because I'm supposed to watch all the fights. Different for punters though, and that's the main thing!

The lack of communication about lengthy cards on small hall shows has always been a great irritation. I've seen friends and family turn up at 6 and still be there after the main event waiting for their lad out of sheer loyalty - they don't even like boxing.

Publishing a bout start time list or at least an order is really helpful, as early as possible but definitely on the night. Not ONCE out of the hundreds of shows I've been to have I ever heard an MC announce the order of bouts on a card.

Been to quite a few Coldwell cards & quite helpfully they have a screen with the running order on which most times has ran exactly as shown on the screen.

That's top notch. I've been to more than quite a few of Dave's shows since 2003 and I've never seen that. Regardless he puts on good shows and always has the customers in mind. I wasn't on about him but you can rest assured it's the case with many.

came in at 9st 10lbs today, with the help from kerry kays ive got down to the weight and i feel ok, it wasnt easy im not gunna lie but ive changed my diet totally and ive sometimes struggled more to make 10st than i did to make 9st 10lbs today so im hoping ill feel good tomorrow, if i come through im hoping to get in the mix on the domestic scene, some great fights for me

Good luck Curtis sounds a nightmare & when you talk about how hard making weight is it makes me happy to be weighing in at heavyweight!

Usually all fights are shown but as this card has 14 I'm not sure. It starts at 6.30 and will be on till midnight IME so will be a marathon night of free entertainment.

I thought Tyan Booth won that to be honest .
