Brook/Hearn/Matchroom Blatantly ducked Alexander

brook his happy to fight next month. eddie hearn and everyone knows

1. Mayweather fighting in September
2. Khan not fighting until december
3. Mattyhse vs Garcia in September (so unlikely to fight FMJ then)
4. ALexander rather fight FMJ in sept than Khan later, has FMJ offers more money
5. IBF belt therfore becomes vacant
6. Brook will fight for vacant IBF after september with weaker guy like Bizier, Purdy, Bundu or Randal Bailey.
7. Eddie hearn claims another "IBF" Champion in his stable

thoughts

I could see how that COULD play out but i disagree with Brook ducking Alexander, surely its a bigger risk/reward ratio rematching Carson Jones who gave Kell kittens when he didnt need to as he had a world title fight where if he lost to Devon he,s still got a foot in the American market

Promoting and Match Making are 2 different cases.

everyones knows the welterweight and light welterweight divisions and ruthless right know.

imagine when Rios, ALvarado, Peterson, Mattsyse, khan, garcia, all move up to welter.
Brook and Khan will have no chance

i really wanna like brook, i think he has all the tools, but i want him to step up now, not down

So you're saying he's never going to be an A grade fighter, maybe not even a B grade fighter so why subject him to high profile losses that he may never come back from? Is that not wise promoting? Maximising your earning potential from your investment and abilities.

Taking the easiest path to a title, then defending it and marketing your guy as a top level fighter. It's what's been going on in boxing promoting since day one?

If Brook did fight Alexander last night and Alexander injured his hand in the first, very good chance he would have captured the title.

I'm not sold on Brook but he prob would have beaten a one handed Alexander.

Just a thought...

I think the problem most people have is the amount of time effort and money Fr&nk allegedly, Eddie Hearn and SKY have invested in Brooks career without him hitting his potential. He's been a pro now for 9 years and still hasn't really mixed it at world level. Fr&nk allegedly suggested Brooke was offered 2 world title shots but didn't take them. Brooke Vs. Alexander was supposed to happen 3 times but didn't.

When your nickname is The Special One and your happy to be compared to Naz, you better be a superstar. More and more fans are waking up to the fact that Kell might not want it enough, or might not actually have the ability to see it through. When your almost 10 years into a pro career, undefeated in 29 fights with 5 missed world title chances behind you and your going over old ground in your next fight it's easy to see why some boxing fans are getting a little bit fed up with him.

I can't really see where Brook fits into the Welterweight scene. I think the likes of Mayweather, Bradley, Alexander, Pacquiao, Guerrero, Provodnikov, Berto, Maidana and Abregu could all handle Brook fairly easily, especially if the fights took place in the States. The longer Brook treads water, the more people realize he doesn't fancy it.

this is the hypocrisy. when other fighters (that we arenot fans of) do the same thing we go on about milking and ducking and diving. on ringside he didn't appear too upset when he was injured.

i dont see someone fighting for a vacant title as world champion.

Chad,
Well if Wazza said two World title fights turned down it must be true.
Bullshit. The man couldn't even put him top if the bill in his own city for any fight. Also what's this major cash investment you refer to ?

I'm just repeating what allegedly has suggested on more than one occasion. I've yet to hear anything from Brook denying these claims. I accept it could just be allegedly trying to muddy the water however Brooks silence says more than W&rrens words. Just my opinion, not everyone will feel the same.

I didn't suggest a major cash investment had been made. Here is what I posted "I think the problem most people have is the amount of time effort and money Fr&nk allegedly, Eddie Hearn and SKY have invested in Brooks career without him hitting his potential."

A 9 year career doesn't fund itself. I'm not sure Kell would be where he is today if it wasn't for the time, advice, guidance and general promoting investment of allegedly, Hearn and SKY. Again just my opinion.

The Sky team were trying to hype a possible Brook vs Purdy fight last night after Purdy lost.

I think there is a good chance that Brook's team have a big lack of confidence in Brook at the moment.

Yeah I couldn't believe what I was hearing. To go from Devon Alexander to Carson Jones then potentially Lee Purdy pretty much sums up what is wrong with Brook. These 2 fights would see him through 2013. When I pay my SKY Sports subscription it's not to watch Brook Vs. Jones or Brook Vs. Purdy. Not good enough. Someone needs to give this lad a shake. I'm beginning to understand why allegedly let him go.

Brook might as well try winning the British title back if he wants to take on guys like Purdy. He seems to be going backwards.

Chad,
A 9 year career is funded by purse money and sponsorship.
You seem to imply Wazza threw money at Brook to fund his career.
Naive comment.
Wazza only came out with the "two World Title" line when Brook left.
Now I wonder why ?
As for your comment that this went unchallenged quite frankly the comment is so absurd it doesn't deserve a retort.
Brook with Wazza = wasted time.
Tell me precisely WHAT Wazza did for him.
Then compare that to what Hearn has done.
The recent injury problems have left Brook with a dark cloud over his head.
He has to rebuild and with respect a rematch with a man who nearly represented the snake in boxing snakes and ladders for Brook isn't as bad as is being intimated.

I suggested that allegedly, Hearn and SKY have all invested their time, effort and money in Brooks career. Nothing naive about me posting that as it's a fact.
Parson Cross wrote:Wazza only came out with the "two World Title" line when Brook left. Now I wonder why?
Sadly I don't think we will ever get the full story of what was, or what wasn't presented to Brook.
Parson Cross wrote:As for your comment that this went unchallenged quite frankly the comment is so absurd it doesn't deserve a retort.
Then why have you retorted? Seems strange Brook wouldn't make any comments when being publicly accused of ducking 2 world title opportunities by his former promoter. I don't think Brook knows how to stand up for himself. Remember how poorly he came across on Ringside when Khan verbally bitch slapped him.
Parson Cross wrote:Brook with Wazza = wasted time.
Becoming British champion and being in a position to push on for world honors isn't a waste of time in my eyes.
Parson Cross wrote:Tell me precisely WHAT Wazza did for him.
See above.
Parson Cross wrote:Then compare that to what Hearn has done.
Nothing seems to have changed really. Brook is still in a position to push for world honors.
Parson Cross wrote:The recent injury problems have left Brook with a dark cloud over his head.
If they are real.
Parson Cross wrote:He has to rebuild and with respect a rematch with a man who nearly represented the snake in boxing snakes and ladders for Brook isn't as bad as is being intimated.
Possibly however is it a fight the fans want to see? I'll wait for the viewing figures. The viewing public will decide if Brook Vs. Jones is what they want.

Clearly we have different views on Brook and his career. I'm not going to be able to change your mind and your not going to be able to change mine. It'll take Brook beating a proper world champion to convince me he has the right stuff. Sadly I just can't see if happening.

Apart from turning him into a ticket seller. He wasn't a draw before he left Warren. In fact I remember Warren saying Brook would never fill an arena (in fact it might have been tickets in general).

Its a pretty big change, he is far more marketable these days.

I think his improved marketability has more to do with SKY giving him a big push than what Hearn has done. SKY built up Hatton Vs. Brook like a PPV show. How long will the fans turn out in their numbers for the likes of Carson Jones II and potentially Lee Purdy?

Sky gave him a big push because he was with Eddie, and Eddie sold him to Sky.

The Carson Jones fight is a good fight for what it is. He will have been out for the best part of a year, and is coming back against the guy who almost beat him last time.

As for the Purdy fight, has either Brook or Matchroom called for this fight? There is no way he fights Purdy so unless I hear it from Matchroom themselves, I'm going to treat it as stupid talk.

To summarise - I think Brook beats Alexander, I don't think Brook ducked Alexander (just like Alexander didn't duck Brook when he was injured), and I don't think the tune up against Carson Jones is a bad fight compared to some of the toss I have seen W@rren and other promoters serve up.

It seems the people of Sheffield (parsons cross & DMA) are happy with Brooks progress

Personally I expect more from him

Their are plenty of names 140-147 so I expect sky/Matchroom to dig a little deeper and bring in someone to push him forward -

Lewis was recognised at lineal and undisputed.

i dont recognise david haye as a heavyweight.
Klit beat chagaev(who had wba belt, but this wasnt sanctioned). valuev beat ruiz for vacant belt after chagaev was stripped.

Carl Froch is a beast, love the fighter, hall of famer, but he lost to andre ward. therefor when he beat bute, i didn't fall for him being NEW world champ again, let him beat ward then he can be.same for arthur abraham and stieglitz. its these instances the wbo, ibf, are no difference from WBU

He was going to be stepping in with Alexander until a series of injuries (from them both) stopped it happening. Would that not have been progress?

If he wasn't coming back from injury after last fighting in October of course Carson Jones isn't a good matchup. But he is - so it is a perfectly acceptable match-up in my eyes (especially as the first fight was close). As for the first Jones fight, and then the Saldivia fight, they were eliminators - it is the route Matchroom decided to go to get Brook the title shot. And it worked right up until he got injured. So again, they were perfectly acceptable fights.

Were you wanting him to fight somebody harder than ever before when he is coming back from injury? No tune-up fight?

Join the club of banging your head on a brick wall mate. Some people just dont get how the politics of boxing works and that just because they want it the likes of Brook can just jump in the ring with the elite. The 3 cancellations were all valid and invloved both fighters. The consequences have been serious for Kell he's now got to find a route back - and balancing risk and reward. Brook Jones 2 is not a bad comeback fight.

Agreed. It a good comeback fight after 9 months out
