The sky boxing set up is dated complacent and tired beyond belief. Fat ex pros who sit on the fence afraid to offer an opinion because it goes against Smith's script.

Adam Smith would be better off presenting something like gardeners world or great steam engine journeys. If someone is going to present a boxing tv show in this day and age get someone with a bit of arsehole in them who at least looks like he knows the difference between a hook and an uppercut.

I say this as most other sports now seem to go the route of the ex pro rather than the trained journalist. It works well in cricket with Gower, Hussain, Nicholas, Atherton and Gotham and others.but those men are by large highly educated and or totally unafraid to offer an opinion. Boxing once had and attracted great trained journalists and writers. You think of eamonn andrews, Harry carpenter , Hemingway,and Norman mailer to name a few.

The graphics, music, and presentation tickets coverage is dated. And the network spends more time talking about boxing than showing it. it The Hearn exclusive arrangement is a sham

Mcrory,piper, Oliver, have little to say and rarely offer an opinion and sit on the fence. Woodall also suffers this problem but Richie is very articulate and easy to listen to. He doesn't growl like Nelson and Mcrory and he doesn't butt in like Mcguigan.

And forcing Bob mee out in front of the tv to try and project him as some kind of british answer to Bert sugar is laughable. Bob is a boxing historian of sorts but I doubt he knows any more than bounce who is a bona fide historian.

As far as the anchor job goes. Ed Robinson prevail Dempsey are my two choices. Robinson should be running the show knowledgeable erudite and an ex fighter

The commentary team has to has to simply has to have 3 person ala the Americans. Watt is okay in the larry merchant role.rawlings calls a fight well but I like him with duke McKenzie and Danny Williams who was brilliantly funny and knowledgeable in the commentating he did on eurosport a while back.
I'd have Nelson strictly as roving reporter.

For pundits id have stock guys as Richie Woodall Matthew Hatton and Clinton woods . For guest roles kell brook and the superb Carl froch when time permits and add as permanent fixtures audley Harrison, and have Chris Eubanks in the Mcguigan role.

Chris is less wild these days but articulate and opinionated as ever. I'd keep watt and mee as analysts.

I think Glen McCrory is a top guy and an excellent reader of a fight and one of the best on tv.

imo richie woodhall is the best boxing commentator/analyst in this country like you say he is easy to listen too andis very knowledgable about the sport of boxing.

there is boxing on tv weekly a while ago we didnt even have that anymore when ringside was abolished.
on top of this they do specials on big fights, on past warrioers and world level legends.

I think Smith's heart is in the right place, as long as he's in the studio and not doing his bad Ian Darke impression behind the mic at ringside I don't mind him.

I personally think Richie Woodall - if pushed - could run the whole thing. He has more to give than the basic pundit / analyst role.

I'd say he is knowledgeable and passionate. Its hardly his fault he is an ex public school boy rather than a skinhead with a squashed nose.

Yes sky could be much better. But c'mon its not that bad and certainly better than the alternative of them pulling out of the sport.

The guy may be the most knowledgable chap in the world on the sport, he may do tons of good stuff at SKY yadda yadda but he has no personality.

He is dull, monotone, tries to fire up but sounds a nob head. Some guys are just not interesting. I once worked in a watch shop, this paddy guy used to put a watch on a ladies wrist and tell them how it suited them, how they were born for it etc and it flowed out like silk.

I would say the same and sound like an utter prick.

Some guys, just not get the voice tone, style, swathe, whatever and Smith doesn't. Let him pull the strings behind the scene. I always watch him and think, "God, you were really bullied at school werent you pal?"

I'd never put Adam Smith in front of a camera if I was sky, he just looks and sounds out of place. He asks ridiculous questions, interupts and sometimes talks over the far far more interesting guests. Like the rest of the team though

No, its smiths abilities as a journalist, his inability to ask questions the fans want to hear, his sycophancy, his inability to create entertain ok ng tv. The repetitive nature of his shows , his poor choice to deal only with hearn, that gets to me. Public schools have nowt to do with it

I'd much rather have skys current output than no output. Although I accept much could be done to improve things.

I think Jamie Moore and Charlie Webster could be utilised far more for starters.

Generally I like the Sky Sports team, but find it difficult to watch the way Smith and Nelson gaze longingly at each other whilst the other is speaking, as though they were reminiscing of off screen masterbation sessions.

Ed robinson speaks a more pronounced received pronounciation and perhaps doesnt look like a "typical boxing fan". But no one mentions that or criticises him. And its not just as robinson is articulate and entertaining. The problem with smith is undoubtedly the odd faces, the camp mannerisms the weird arching of his back the loving longing glances with his johhny.his insistence that all are perched on stools instead of chairs.on top ofvthe boxing output presentation

I'm sure other promoters / fighters who have been on PPV will be angered at the amount of promotion it has had compared to their own PPV's.

Its been drip fed since the start of the year and now been in overdrive the last month of so including programmes everyday this week.

Be interesting to compare the amount of promotion Sky have put into this compared to other PPV's.

Its a great fight don't get me wrong, but as another poster said - its a fight to decide the #2 Super Middleweight in the world, not the "fight of the century" as has been described this week.
