no way booth lets groves with froch, not this stage no way.earsjohn wrote:I think there are some more likely options in George Groves, Chavez Jnr, Jean Pascal or even Lucien Bute 2.
he has wba superbelt (official wba belt) frochs wba is like povetkinsNewport Daz wrote:I'd like to see Ward, but in the UK. I don't know whether I'm reading it right but Ward doesn't seem to fancy coming to the UK unless he gets big money. Ward has no following outside California and I may be wrong, but isn't a belt holder any more. Ward should come to Froch now, he's a massive draw and well known in the US. If Ward doesn't fancy it he should take on someone like Groves or even Cleverly at a catch weight. Much bigger money for far less risk.
Ok, I forgot about WBA, must have been WBC only that stripped him. I'd like to see Ward, but I would bet domestic fights with Groves and Cleverly will pay better. You say no way about Groves, but same promoter, easy to make, Groves may fancy it and a loss at his stage of his career with a big pay day is hardly the end of the world.dammage7 wrote:he has wba superbelt (official wba belt) frochs wba is like povetkinsNewport Daz wrote:I'd like to see Ward, but in the UK. I agree with this I would really love him to pummel Big Clev though.Riddick Blowe wrote:Froptions:
Well, the Ward fight is not going to happen. Full stop. Neither side truly want it.
Those other choices look horrible.
If I was Froch I would honestly call FW's bluff and try and get Cleverly in the ring for an easy payday win, if only for the pleasure of watching FW poo himself and backtrack/go quiet. He wouldn't even need to pack on 7 more pounds, just knock him out weighing 167.5 lbs.
What else is there? With a decent profile now he could just have a few packed house defences at home, make good money then retire, but he'll probably seek more than that.
It's sad, but there's very little out there for him. The most meaningful option might be Dawson at 175, a fight I think Froch would win, but then Froch doesn't need to step up to lightheavy due to his freakish ability to stay the same weight for his whole career, so that's a non-starter too sadly.
On balance, for him personally his best choice might be to cash out with some low risk home fights, make some more money then retire.
He does look slow although it hasn't hindered him. He's only been beat by Ward and Kessler not to shabby is it.desperados wrote:moving up to fight Cleverly would be nice, i'll pick Nathan, Froch is way too slow.
I'd like to see Froch knock 7 bells out Groves & deGale in the same night he like promised, and he probably could.
He needs to stay away from Ward though, he'll make him look stupid, and make it look even easier than last time.

I get the opinion you don't really like Froch?
He does have a very good chin; he's taken some really big punches flush, far harder looking than the Taylor punch which dropped him (years ago); what is equally impressive is the fierceness he fires back with after getting hit. He has real bottle, a very competitive and determined man.desperados wrote:zero wrote:He does look slow although it hasn't hindered him. i'm undecided on him, on a personal level but i have no complaint about the action he brings and the excitement of his fights, i also think right now he probably has the best pfp chin the entire sport, it's something to behold.
His lack of speed he makes up for in other areas, mainly his sheer intensity and ability to throw hard shots in volume, which in itself is rather unique. Cleverly however also has a good chin from what we've seen, Bellew thumped him with his best shots and Cleverly was actually a like Froch-like himself in his reactions to big shots. But the difference in speed & Cleverly being the bigger man i think points to win for Nathan in not such a disimilar way to how Calzaghe would have beaten Froch imo.

If Froch moved up, fighting a paper champion like Cleverly would gain him nothing. Not to mention Cleverly is so far below this level and has not even stepped anywhere near World Class and hasn't got any better than he was, like 3-4 yrs ago. Bute was quick, Dirrell was real fast. Kessler has decent speed. Taylor was very quick. Froch done well against all of those. Different levels and all that.desperados wrote:moving up to fight Cleverly would be nice, i'll pick Nathan, Froch is way too slow.
Nice idea Yiddo mate. This does make sense and will earn him a few quid. Bigger fights out there but the risk comes with that, too, I guess.lillywhite14 wrote:Maybe get Stiglietz over for a decent payday, he holds a title, unification match etc, should be a fairly easy sell. Froch would beat him no problem.
Then finish it all off with a Ward rematch or maybe a Kessler rubber match.
Groves would be an option for the Battle of Britain angle etc but I can't see it happening, I think it will end up similar to how Calzaghe-Froch played out.
