Roger Mayweather, trainer of new light welterweight contender Floyd Mayweather Junior, says Britain's Ricky Hatton would get "blitzed" in America.
Hatton reportedly turned down a fight with the former two-weight world champion Mayweather Junior, who makes his 140lb debut against DeMarcus Corley in May.
And Roger Mayweather believes Hatton would be defeated by any number of fighters on American soil.
"He's nothing," he said. "In America he wouldn't make the top 10."
"If Hatton came over the water he'd get whupped by (Miguel Angel) Cotto, (Vivian) Harris and Floyd Mayweather.
"He can only fight in front of his own crowd - in America he'd be an ordinary Joe Blow.
"Like Prince Naseem, he's only good as long as he stays in England.
"He ain't smart enough, he's been fighting journeymen and old guys. He's one-dimensional.
"allegedly (Hatton's promoter) knows he's got an 'in-house racehorse' - a guy who wins all the time as long as he's running the show."
Hatton made the 12th defence of his lightly-regarded WBU crown against Dennis Holbaek Pedersen in Manchester on Saturday night.

If Hatton fights another old man on June 5, then that's it.

No, that's not quite a fair comparison. Remember America is a huge place, and outside of their hometowns a lot of American fighters don't get the kind of huge support that Hatton gets, outside of their home state they are likely to be getting booed or ignored, and there aren't many fighters who are favourites of the crowd in Vegas.

The fact is, the best sparring remains in America, and I think that any aspiring fighter would benefit from living and training in America for a few months a year, it makes a massive difference, look how much better Benn was when he got back from the states.

I think that it makes economic sense for Hatton to fight Mitchell at home, as Mitchell isn't a draw anywhere in the world, so may as well do it where a capacity crowd is guaranteed, MEN.

Agreed. Mark Johnson, case in point. Weight divisions with incredibly few Americans, he's got to number one status never having fought in the hotspots for fighters of fly and super fly weight, indeed, never having fought outside the US.

Not contradicting myself, just pointing out double standards, but for me, it was always the guy in the opposite corner who was more important than the crowd. Plus, Hatton would arguably have more fans, and certainly more vocal fans, than PBF, Harris, Mitchell or maybe even Cotto even if a match was staged in the States.

Mayweather Jr has got bags of talent, but acts likes a 14 year old 'wanna be gangsta'. This seems to run in the family somewhat.

True Hatton really needs to step up a level ASAP, Hatton Vs Mayweather Jr is a fight I'd love to see.

I just can't warm to 'Pretty Boy' and would love to see Hatton pin him against the ropes and rip into his body.

Ninth defence: Vince "Cool" Phillips was 39 and came for the payday (even squeezing some extra money out of Warren just before the fight, for which he is now being sued). He arrived three days before the fight.

Tenth defence: Warren promised an opponent ranked in the top 10. What we didn't expect was a fighter ranked in the top 10 lightweights! This wasn't a fight. It was just a case of how long 29-year-old Aldo Rios could last.

Eleventh defence: The 30-year-old Ben Tackie was seen as the acid test for Hatton, but he was another who had clearly seen better days. Kostya Tszyu played with him, and Sharmba Mitchell also outclassed - and even floored him, seven months before the Hatton fight.

Yes, whilst I don't like any bad comments about a fighter - it is Floyd Mayweather after all, he has backed up his own hype so many times by beating the very best in the devision at 2 different weights so far. He's one of the few guys who could call Hatton "nothing" and get away with it, cause compared to his achievements Hatton has done nothing.

hutchinson was a late sub for someone else, hutchinson wasnt far off from beating gatti

I can understand where the mamba is coming from though........RH looks the business but its been B - material at best (thinking of Tackie here). Mitchell -RH should happen this summer. zoo's injury has opened a lot of doors for the hitman and he needs to take advantage of them

Nice summary of Hatton's "title reign," Bennie. I'm no fan of Floyd, either, but he has at least backed up his mouthing off by taking on and beating top guys. You keep doing that, and people generally will be willing to cut you some slack regarding the boasting (but hopefully not the alleged wifebeating. )
